Re: Brake Issues - Report your Date of Manufacture and VIN
Office of Defects Investigation (ODI), File A Safety Complaint
Just completed the formal report for my issue. I dismissed the problem when it happened (even though it scared the hell out of me). After reading other’s accounts of the same thing, I strongly believe there is an issue that needs to be investigated further. Is the above (NHTSA) the best place to report this problem?
Re: Brake Issues - Report your Date of Manufacture and VIN
I have an MT and have only had the unresponsive situation twice. One was a pot hole, pedal went to the floor. I pumped it, and they worked fine. The other was an off camber entrance to a parking lot, that also has a speed bump. Again pumped the brake and all was good. I drive into this parking lot everyday, I just take it a bit slower now and have never had it happen again. I'm sure I could if I tried.

Re: Brake Issues - Report your Date of Manufacture and VIN
I'm in - 2008 Auto.
Build date 03/08, Vin 37783
I've had both unresponsive ABS and over responsive braking.
My gf and I can both recall an event when a pedestrian stepped out onto the highway to cross, I went for the brakes at about 60km/h and the truck fully locked up. I even had time to let off the brakes turn to my gf (while the truck was screeching to a stop) and say " I'm not touching the brake pedal!".
Needless to say the pedestrian looked at me like I was insane, because the FJ stopped about 50ft away from the crosswalk
edit: This was before the lift and tires, on dry clean pavement.
