There are two items under my claim. One is the paint chips and the other is the windshield. The Service Director and not the Service Manager sent me an email today at work. He CCed me a message directly to Toyota. In it he stated "It's on it's second windshield and that's pitted also". The big wigs from Toyota will be inspecting my vehicle. Not sure if that's good or bad.
Once I know more I'll post to this thread. In the meantime, call 1-800-331-4331 and start your own claim. As more people make their own claims, Toyota will start to see a common problem through out these claims.

Just got a call from the Service Director. Toyota will be sending out a Rep and an Engineer to inspect my vehicle on May 8th. This inspection will be for both the windshield and paintchipping issue. I'll let everyone know how this goes.

I'd be very curious to see how this goes. Seems like Toyota needs to step up to the plate and produce vehicles with better exterior finishes. I've never had this problem with other vehicles that have 5x's the mileage. I've got 15K on my FJ with paint chips and a pitted windshield. My old pathfinder which I sold last summer had 135K and little wear on the paint. It'll suck if I have to repaint my FJ by 50K. I would love to hear that Toyota is willing to repaint these vehicles at their cost and put on some bomber paint. I love my FJ, but it doesn't seem to be produced to withstand the test of time from an aesthetic point of view.

Ira / Toyota will pay for a brand new paint job free!
That is crazy....this is the reason I traded out of mine. You do realize that a re-painted vehicle has a lot less value when you go to get rid of it. I would opt for a manufacturer buy back! Do you really want a BRAND NEW RE-PAINTED TRUCK!?!?!?
but hey, the choice is yours....im just going to wait a year or two before getting another one.

I am not trying to start a flame-fest here and like yourself, I would not want a brand new re-painted vehicle. Toyota needs to address these issues. However, I fail to follow your logic. Having a vehicle repainted is not like trying to ditch a vehicle on somebody with a "salvage" or "wrecked" title. There are no laws or regulations in my state whereas I would even have to disclose that I had a vehicle repainted. If somebody chose to "Earl Scheib" up their rig that is one thing but a quality paint job would serve to make a used vehicle more marketable in most scenarios. All things being equal, a used vehicle with a spotless, post factory paint job would command a better market price than one with OEM paint covered in rock chips and scratches.

I see your logic...however, having worked in a dealership, and being a car collector, I do know that once a vehicle has been re-painted, a good chunk of the value is gone! Yes I do realize that some aftermarket paint shops do a much better job than factory, but you also have to realize that if a car has been wrecked/totaled, it doesnt always show on a title, or in the registry of motor vehicles! Some ppl after wrecking a vehicle opt NOT to go through insurance, and sometimes there isnt even a police report for the accident....meaning the vehicle can slip through the system with a clean title, and clean marks on a carfax. Usually if a vehicle has been re-painted it is becuase of an accident or major defect....this WILL EFFECT THE LATER VALUE! Does NOT matter if the car was re-painted at the Dealership you purchased it from....professionals such as the dealer you will most likely trade it into WILL NOTICE a re-paint!
I strongly urge people with Paint Chipping Issues to SEEK a Manufacturer Buy Back! It seems to be the only logical way for you NOT to lose out on VALUE of your car!
Just on a side note, my 03 Rav4 had the same exact problem you are describing, it was worse due to the front of the rav was painted not plastic and rubber like the FJ, looked like it was sand blasted. The bottom line is Toyota paint SUCKS, I can't say enough about how much it sucks. I bought the FJ knowing the paint sucks, I agree it should not suck and Toyota should correct this issue at their cost. I figure in 10yrs, I'll just have the FJ repainted.
YEP...
