Re: Paint Chipping Class Action?

Just my 2 cents - I have owned mine 6 weeks with about 3k miles & yes I have paint chips, chips & pitted winshield & interior plastics scratch way to easy. I realize no car is perfect but out of my 70+ cars I've owned I never had one cosmetically age so damn fast. I do love my FJC but it's going to look like a beater probally with horrible resale in a few short years - not what I expected from Toyota

Re: Paint Chipping Class Action?

I agree 100%. Mechanically I am pleased with the quality, but cosmetically I am extremely disapointed. It will be interesting to see if Toyota fixes the paint issue in future model years. I am meeting next week with the regional customer service guy about the paint, but from what I have read, I don't expect them to do a thing. At this point, I would be happy if they would just paint the badly chipped areas so I can get a decent price for it and buy something else.

Re: Paint Chipping Class Action?

Talked to the Regional rep yesterday on the phone, and she said that I am the only one having any issues with the paint. Explained to her that I have heard to the contrary, but the company line is that there is no issue.

They have offered to repaint the a-pillars, but nothing else (backing off from earlier offering to repaint the entire vehicle).

If anyone is having this issue, please call the Toyota support number at 800-331-4331 so that they will have more issues logged on this problem. She said I had legal remedies, but I explained to her that I would rather solve the issue without legal entanglements if at all possible. Although she was towing the company line, she was sympathetic to my issue, and was gently suggesting I start something official as was outlined in the owner's manual.

If we want to share Toyota case numbers, I'm all for that so each of us would have a comeback when we hear that we are unique and they have not heard of this issue before.

It seems majority wise, that the Voodoo Blue FJ is the one with the most chipping...then again, majority wise there are more Voodoo Blue FJ's than any other color...

Re: Paint Chipping Class Action?

I'll call Toy today and talk to them. I have a BC with paint chips everywhere- BTW Some of them dont look like chips but fisheyes (for those paint savvy) in the paint which can cause the paint to chip. This is from oil or foriegn material on the body when painted. My BC has 10k mi on it and had chips when I bought it and keeps gaining more- haven't off roaded yet and usually not on the HWY, so I'm leaning toward the manufacturer defect- I may have one of the field reps from work (AMFAM Ins.) look at it as well and see what he says- Kinda ticks me off when it is supposed to be chip resistant-Let you know!!

Re: Paint Chipping Class Action?

Ok I got my FJ back from the dealer on Thursday. Toyota re-painted the whole truck except the roof and back door. It looks great, brand new. There was a little over spray on the frame but they cleaned it up right away for me.

The contact numbers I used are here in another thread

Canadians with paint chips...

Toyota knows this is a problem. They denied me officially 3 times and once by the dealership. I just kept at it.

Will the dealer re-paint be any better? It can't be any worse. 1000km and no chip yet....

Re: Paint Chipping Class Action?

I had several chips after 1000 miles. I put a clear bra on it and it has been chip free. I do however have several chips above the windshield and on the A-pillar. I even have chips on my ROOF!! I think when rocks get up there they bounce around in the rack and chip the roof...just a guess.

The FJ isn't my daily driver in the summer. We'll see what happens in the winter.

Re: Paint Chipping Class Action?

I called and spoke with Toyota today about this
They advised me to bring it to the dealer for them to look at
She gave me a case number
200705230533

Everyone should call and request that their entire truck be repainted properly

I do not know about the other colors but the Voodoo is very thin

I agree: I think most chip issues are relagated to the Voodoo Blues.

Maybe we could get a poll and query those who have chipping by color....

I baby mine, haven't really been off road, and my A-Pillars, hood, fenders, and even doors have enough chips to ruin my wash day. I pointed it out to my dealer at my 10K oil change and they basically said, "yep, those are rock chips, not our problem." I filed a complaint with Toyota, and while they were polite enough, I was basically given a case number and told to jump. If they're being hounded about this issue, everyone is playing dumb around here. Sign me up for this suit and F the flamers. Off road vehicle or no... if chips aren't earned on a trail, I don't want to see em.
Sing me up too! I got 19K (Not a daily driver) and have been using the touch up pain I got like crazy!! I love the truck too and I dont get why the paint chips soo easily!!!

IM IN! PS I have Voodoo Blue as well.
