My paint chips

So I called the customer service number, being nice about it wanting to let them know. They were good about it and he said he hadn't heard anyone else having that problem, but insisted I call the head of customer service at the dealership I bought it from and if I didn't get good resolution to call back. So today I went to the dealer and he looked my rig over. I was nice about it, and so was he. He agreed these were rock chips, or even chips at all, the paint is flaking off. Don't know if it's a bad batch or bad clear coat but he is going to get the corp rep out to take a look and he said he doesn't want to, but will get it repainted if need be no question. I think that's pretty damn cool myself.

Toyota of Portsmouth rocks.

Re: My paint chips

Wow,my dealer did a paint density test and said everthing was fine. They insisted they were rock chips.I pointed out that they were everywhere.Lots of them in places a rock could never get too.Never heard from them again. No rocks on the road now and I am still losing paint.

Re: My paint chips

I think so. I actually live in Manchester, Portsmouth is the only dealer in the area I will go to anymore. Have you tried calling the corp number? If it helps I can give you my case number so you have others that have had the problem and tell them the dealer isn't getting it right.

Re: My paint chips

i had an issue with the paint on my silverado. took it to the dealer, service guy came out looked, agreed, said when can you drop it of to our painter. i told him that i made an appt with my own painter and they paid for an entire new paint job for my truck. now that was a sweet deal. no hassle, no questions, didnt have to talk to 17 people to get an answer.

Dude.....consider yourself "lucky" I live in NH and started having paint chips way back early this year....(jan/feb)......I imediately called my dealership (Berlin City) and planned on being up there a week or so later......they were surprised to see and said there was nothing they could do except make another apt with a regional rep.....they took a few pics and supposedly forwarded them to somebody, somewhere?? honestly....they couldn't say where they ended up....close to 2 months later I finally get my apt (after having to call them a few times to remind them I hadn't forgotten).....the rep was a snobby B.... you know what and really didn't seem to know what she was doing.....it looked like it was her first week or so....her knowledge about the FJ was pretty pathetic......they decided it was "enviromental" and blamed it on road salt.....I actually brought in 6 pages printed off of this website with others complaining about thier paint....the same as myself......they suggested I purchase a bottle of touch up paint and use that to fix my problem.....my reply to that was......how do you expect me or somebody else to spend almost $30,000 and then just slobber on a bunch of touch up paint to fix it....anyways.....it's still not fixed but.....I will call ports toyota monday am......thanx for letting us know about it.....

Happy to share it. It pisses me off when I hear about people being told stuff like that. I told both the corp office and dealership I understand things happen, bad batch of paint or whatever, but it was obvious to the service manager as well that they weren't even really chips. It was more like the paint flaked off. If that rep dismissed it like that, call the 800 number and tell them as well. If you want use me as an example. There are good dealerships out there, but I think calling the 800 number was important as well so they get to see when people have these problems.

Yeah.....actually now that you mention the 800# I forgot to mention that part of my story.....I ended up calling the 800# out in Cali and created a file regarding my paint chipping complaint.....I told them that it had taken weeks and close to 2 months to hear anything back from the dealership.....they're the ones that pushed the dealership to set up my meeting with the regional rep.....they (at the 800#) also stated that once the regional rep inspected my FJ that whatever the rep decided on was where it would end...and that they couldn't overide the conclusion of the inspection...and couldn't persue it further with the dealership or the rep unless I was to find another toyota dealership with a different rep.....so it's not like I can just call other toyota dealers and ask who thier rep is without giving them reason to ask why am I looking for a diff rep.....it says guilt all over it......but.....they did say I could try the arbitration route.....which I haven't persued......I have invested way too much time with issues with my FJ......Isn't it usually the reason why people buy brand new.......to avoid having issues with thier old(er) cars??

Re: My paint chips

Wow...that really sucks. You might try taking it to an auto/body place and have them examine the spots and write out that they are not in fact the result of rocks/salt. Turns out they can. They way it chips and other evidence can determine that. That may give you some ammunition to fire back that the rep isn't an expert and that you have a statement from someone who works on them all the time. I am funny about that though, I will raise a fuss of hate and discontent until they usually take care of it to shut me up. haha Something else is if you call back and they tell you the same stuff about the rep, ask what his qualifications are in this matter.
I hope it goes better for me when I see the rep, but the service manager himself said these aren't rock chips, the paint is flaking off. You want my case number to use for back up if you call back? I was told if it wasn't resolved to my satisfaction to call back, ask to speak to someone higher up. Don't under rate the power of writing letters either. Believe it or not companies take notice when someone actually writes and mails a letter.

Yeah I'm the type of person that usually doesn't stop until I get a positive result but....I suck at writing letters and that's where it normally stops for me.....call it lazy or just plain stubborness I dunno.....all I know is that when this all first started back 6 or 7 months ago, my truck was alot newer with quite a few less miles....the whole thing....including all the issues I've had with the dealership (they SUCK) and the FJ have just aggrivated me enough......so hopefully you won't see the same REP.....I wanna say her name was Heather......and she comes somewhere from like Mansfield mass......she sucked too!! haha.....I might just swing into ports toyota today and not even mention about your incident......I'll let ya know what happens.....and thanx again for maybe a little light!!
