dont know yet if they are new panels, redesigned panels, or something else. they said they will take care of me, and i am confident in toyota that they will.
if my truck needs to be torn down even 2-4 more times just so this issue can be fixed im ok with it. as long as my loaner car isnt a chrysler minivan again
What dealership did you take it to?
I was thinking also maybe keep a tally on which dealerships are taking care of us and which ones are giving the cold sholder. So we all know who to go to, to get it done. Just a thought.

Re: Engine Bay Body Rips
i cant say which dealership it is yet. have to wait for the whole thing to be figured out first. they just dont want a bunch of people coming in demanding repairs when there is no certain fix set in stone yet.
once it is all figured out i will let you all know.

What do you expect when off roading? Your Fj was not designed to jump or have 35" tires, or even have a lift. Haveing a full frame like the FJ has something has to give. The weakest part will always fail first. The weakest part of the FJ is the front body parts.
I think you all need to get real. Under stand that the Trail Team has alot of money supporting them and what alot of you don't see is the Trail Team has lost and broke alot of there FJ's. They get a new one if they break one you have to pay for yours.
The few that have body rips on there FJ's must have some clams to waste, where as most of us the FJ is our only car and would not do the damageing trails that would F@#k up are FJ.
You will notice these types cause they are the kind of retard that would put the Luc.$3,000.00 roof Light set up on there FJ.
I have this theory of why might this problem exist( just a theory )I was thinking may be some of our FJ's front body mount bolts had either to much or to less torque on them or they are different compound rubber. How about measuring the bolt that is sticking out to compare whether they are all the same length on all the FJ. I think we have to think out of the box on this to come up what is causing this therefore cover every possibilities. I measured mine it is exactly 35mm from the bottom of the bolt. I couldn't measure the torque on the bolt due to not having one.
Has anyone check anything out or this post just got lost?
Ours Shows No Sign, If It Did I Would Have No Problem Telling Anyone. I Try To Look At All The Fj That Come Thru The Service Lane. I Want To Show The Dist Manager Stock Fj First.
COWGIRL, I wasn't aware that you worked at a dealership. Now I understand your request.

x2. That makes sense, MudLoving. I say, let's give Toyota some breathing room and all the time they need to figure out the problem and ultimately come up with a solution.

From the seriousness of this thread, I would say that we have gotten pretty real about this. And no, I do not have clams to waste on my FJ. Nor do I deliberately take on trails that would obviously cause any damage to my daily driver, if that's your implication. And, I'd venture to say that virtually everyone else with this problem falls into the same category.
Of course the Trail Team has funds to support their efforts, and I have no doubt that their FJ's incur a substantial amount of abuse in the process of showing off the FJ's off-road capabilities. However, if that's the kind of off-road prowess that is being demonstrated to the public, one can't help but conclude that the FJ was specifically designed and built to withstand the rigors of off-road driving.
(And in spite of that, Toyota hasn't even concluded that the cause of these problems are even related to off-roading.)
So, if you're inferring that all of us who have experienced cracks and bulges in the engine compartment are careless and extreme off-roaders with money to burn, I certainly beg to differ with you.

I wouldn't worry about it.
That's not very nice. I think there are quite a few people that are experiencing this problem that have not been off road or modified their FJ. In addition, it is possible to offroad responsibly.
It appears to be a design flaw that Toyota potentially worked out in later production FJ's.

Please don't turn this informative, and serious thread into an argument/flame-fest by pointing fingers or name-calling. Mine is pretty stock with no lift or larger tires. It's been off-road but not under any severe conditions and I never jumped it. However, I have a bulge in my Driver's Side inner fender.
Thanks for your cooperation.

i understand your stance on this situation but i have to say, if you were in some of our shoes you would not be saying what you are now.

to each his own.
