Went wheelin' this weekend with some Norcal FJs and there was an 02/07 build-date, completely stock, AT, wheeled hard, that has a bulge on passenger side. His dealership is aware of it.
Based on the build date this should have the "revised" panel, right?
..If so this isn't good news. This eliminates the idea that Toyota changed the panel mid-year to alleviate the problem. Unless this particular scenario is an anamoly for vehicles with the new panel..
Did the owner say he had ever run into or bumped anything head on?
If the new panel has problems as well we are looking at a huge fix.. I'm curious to see how Toyota is going to handle this. I just don't see Toyota replacing all the inner fenders on every FJ produced so far..
The only "cheap" way I see to fix this is have some type of bolt-on/add-on solution. But how you get that cleared through crash certification I'm not sure..
I'm worried that the only ones going to be taken care of are the owners with serious problems.. To me that indicates that if your problem shows up after your warranty is up you are out of luck..
A lot of people who seem to be wondering about there vehicle not being covered because of upgrades or off-roading.
If you recall the sixities like me,a lot of teenagers where blowing up there engines in there brand new muscle cars drag racing them and the dealerships knew damn well they where being raced and had no problem replacing engines under warranty and some dealerships did ther own modifying to the engines and sold them with full warranty knowing they where going to be raced and bought for that purpose.
I see no reason why toyota should not honer a warranty for a vehicle they know is going to be taken off-road and modifyed, just like are muscle cars where in the sixties.
I myself believe toyota will step up to the plate and make the proper repairs regardless of where you drove your fj.
Had previously checked for cracks with no signs, but hadn't checked for bulges. Did that today, passenger side bulge. Lifted 4 weeks ago, no wheeling since, stock bumper. Need to get the build date.

In Post# 430 of this Thread, 5280FJ displays Screenshots of the "Repair Manual" showing the "Confirmation Point," or the Dimple where we see our bulging or cracking.
I want to show the Dealer the Pages he displayed to show them the "Confirmation Point." On his Post you see the Pages listed as IN-14 & IN-15. I own the Paper Copy of Vol. 1, 2 & 3 of the Repair Manual. IN-14 & IN-15 pages are nowhere close to what he had displayed. Can anyone help me find the pages he displayed in he Post in the Paper Manual? i have looked and looked because I am generally half blind. I do not find any information in Vol 1, 2 or 3 regarding those "Confirmation Points" nor any Diagram about how to remove/replace the Inner Fender. Is this information located in another information source?
I appreciate your help in advance!
05/06
12,500 (no I don't put a lot of miles on it)
Light off-road (Ouray, bunny trails)
Stock tires, OME Heavies, and FabFours Bumper
I need to check it in the AM.. well its 0400cst so in a couple of hours when it's light out. I've done a lot to mine as most of the older members have so I DON'T want to see my baby surgically altered or a buyback. This just sux!
Glad to hear Toyota is stepping up to the plate on this though. 8 cars in the past 10 years, this was my keeper.. hope it stays that way!

Can you post a picture of your inner fender with the bulge?

I'm not talking about my rig. My build date is 12/06 and I have bulges both sides. Looks like everyone else. The 02/07 rig belongs to Cruzin4bruzin...you should PM him for pics.

Those pages are in the 124 page Collision Repair Manual, which is a subset of the 2007 FJ Cruiser Factory Repair Manuals.
