Well, just got back from Moab. Last week at our Colo/FR FJ get together we were all checking and I had no bulges. Just checked again, and YES passenger side bulge. All the flexing I did was VERY slow. OME 886/895 no bumper on yet.
Took my FJ in, it is now documented and has a "case number". Service guy called Toyota, they said they were aware of the problem and are working the issue. Not really anything new to add.
Well @ moab this last week we took a look @ the T-teams rig and they had the rips...I looked under my hood and i have bulges, but after my incident on hells gate I could care less.
for the record AP bumper, lift, 285's

Forgive me if I asked something that was already asked. After reading 36 pages of this thread I had to take a break. Supposedly my '07 has the 'fix' on the drivers side fender according to some pictures that I looked at. Build date is 3/07 and the vehicle is completely stock. But in any case I do not have any bulges or cracks. Knocking on wood.
For the most part everyone seems to think that it has to do with the bumpers, lifts, and/or body mounts. I can see the logic that everyone is bringing to the table on this issue. What I am curious about is of the people on this forum who have cracks or bulges how many of you did the body mount chop? I am not sure if it has anything to do with this problem, but am curious to know if it changed any of the dynamics of the vehicle.

Zane,
According to Toyota, the slightly redesigned inner fender panels on the newer build dates is supposedly a cosmetic change, and not a known "fix." So, don't get too over-confident yet.
Just checked mine after reading damn near the entire thread. (I need a nap now...)
04/07 Manufacture date. 6k Miles, couple hundred of which are off-road, completely stock.
No signs of deformation or cracking.
Interesting note: The clutch resevoir mounting bracket (which is pretty large for a such as small clutch resevoir) is affixed to the general area in which these cracks are occuring.

Funny how you all ripped me for jumping mine and bulging the inner fenders and now it seems to be a common problem area!
After getting it fixed from the body shop, he said what caused it was the front frame horns were tweaked up a few mm's which forced the crumple zone to give. Mine was a bit more extreme in that it also shoved the front quarters into the door causing rubbing since the quarters mount to the brace.
Funny results on the polls! It seems the front frame horns are more suspect to bend than an off-road bumper that replaces the horns. Sans damage, I plan to add the Fab Four front bumper.
I guess when Toyota finally fesses-up, I can get my $50 insurance deductible back! LOL! Not a bad price to pay for $3300 of damage I guess. I just wished I had video of the launch!
By the way, good luck with Toyota on this. They pretty much told me if I was off-road my warranty is void. Real nice policy for a rig shown crawling the Rubicon in their own damn ads!
Those pages are in the 124 page Collision Repair Manual, which is a subset of the 2007 FJ Cruiser Factory Repair Manuals.
Kansas,
Thank you for the Information about the Collision Repair Manual. The Collision Repair Manual does not seem to be something you can get along with the 3 Volumes of the Repair Manual when you call the 800 Number. I have them. Do you know if the Collision Repair Manual is available online only for us, or on paper? Where can I obtain it? I very much appreciate your help. I have had no luck with the 800 Number in our Manual or Online.
Thank you,
Walt
