Great news Bear! As you may have noticed I was tied up all day and didn't get to call. I'll try tomorrow.

Did they give you any idea of what the "new inner fenders" were? I think we're all interested in what they are and if they are similar to the 07 builds.

cheers,

dale
I'm noy sure what they look like. They ordered them today, but we all know they are back ordered thanks to MudlovingFJ

They did say that they were going to replace the inner fenders with the new style fenders. These are not a redesigned fender. They are produced by a different supplier. They also told me if it were to happen again in my 3year/ 36,000 miles that they would replace it again.

I would also like to thank everyone that was active in this thread.
First of all, Bear, you're the one we all need to thank for bringing this to our attention to begin with. With as inconspicuous as a lot of our bulging and cracking is, I'd say that the majority of us never would've even noticed anything. (I know that I sure didn't had you not told me what to go look for.)

I'm glad to hear that Toyota and your respective dealership are taking action on this. And, hopefully that will be the ultimate cure once and for all.

I have no doubt that yours and MudLovingFJ's will set the precedence for all the rest of us who are also in need of this particular repair. Ironically, I'm almost kinda relieved that my cracks have shown up as early as they have, well within the warranty period. (I'm just hoping that somehow a warranty "grandfather clause" on this is implemented for those who haven't yet had this probelm, but who might after the typical warranty period.)

Anyway, congrats. And, great job on all you've done.

Thank you, I have read the repair manual links before. I don't mean to drag this out but....the File Sharing links are no longer valid and the Resource Site only has a pirated copy of the 3 Volume Repair Manual that I have the 3 Volumes of on Paper. Is the Collision Repair Manual something I can pay for at the Toyota Website?
I emailed this to you, did you not get it? I think it was 9.1MB in size.

Leo,
There was no attachment in your email.

All,
FYI~ Took my 35,970 Mile TRD FJ to the dealer with my bulging inner panels. They will swap the panels. Lets's hope Toyota solves the issue before the new panels bulge, or the stresses are transferred elsewhere.

Thanks to everyone for making me aware of this. You guys rock!!

Re: Engine Bay Body Rips

LCS, didn't the Toyota rep tell you they were going to try and reproduce the flex issue in a controlled environment? Or was the Mudluvin?

What concerns me is that replacing the fenders with ones from a different supplier is a shot in the dark. It COULD be the source of the problem, but doesn't sound like they did all that testing in a controlled environment.

Don't get me wrong, I think it's great they're willing to replace the fenders but I still want to know EXACTLY what the root of the problem is. Am I alone here?

Walt, sorry, your email will not take an attachment that big. lol, guess it's a "bulge thing". Glad they are taking care of it. Guess I gotta go in and see what the dealer says...

No, I don't think you're alone here. Valid point.

And yes, that is what the Toyota rep told me about an attempt to recreate the conditions that would lead up to the bulging and/cracking. I'm now coming up on the two week period of time that the rep said he'd be getting back to me on what the decision would be for my FJ. If I hear nothing by Monday, I'll be giving him a call.
