Just got the phone call from Toyota saying they want to replace our inner fenders. I have read thru the thread but there seems to be some dissension on if we should let Toyota do that or not. Any thoughts would be helpful as he wants us to take it in to look at one more time before he orders the parts.

Just to clarify, Toyota called you and said get it done? Or did the dealer you showed this to call you and said to bring it in?
I presume its the second but just wondering.

If it's just going to happen again is it worth trying to fix the problem now

the low level primitive screw heads at the dealers mostly have no clue about this problem but once you go up the food chain a bit they have alot of info on how to deal with this

EVERYONE needs to go HERE: E-Mail Toyota and submit a detailed complaint about this issue. Don't forget to create an account after you complete your complaint, or your complaint will not go to Toyota. Be assertive!!! Let them know you are serious about taking legal action if necessary!!! This is how things get done, i.e., the squeaky wheel gets the grease.

Hi FJwidow. I'd say you've got sort of a tricky decision to make.
Ultimately you'll have to do what seems right to you, but, I'd be very leery of turning my truck in for repair until Toyota (and I mean Toyota, not just the dealership) comes out and says they have a fix that actually addresses this specific issue.
So far, I am not at all convinced anything has actually been done along those lines. My concern is, any repair currently being performed will be nothing more than a band-aid.
As I've said before, getting my truck fixed once with a complete front end rebuild is bad enough. If that's the way it has to be, then that's the way it has to be. But, do it twice? Given the choice I'd say "no thanks!"
Now, that's just me. You have to do whatever makes the most sense to you.
I wish you the best of luck with this! Please keep everbody posted on what happens.
Hey guys just got back from the dealership, I met with the service director(great guy) he checked out my Fj and felt the bulge and saw the crack. I showed him how other members are also experiencing this. He partially knew about this issue. The only thing is he told me to wait, either so that the crack could be much more obvious. But he told me one thing for sure toyota will fix it even if it has 100000 miles on. So i will just wait and see what will happen.
