Re: Engine Bay Body Rips

If mine does this I will demand a full refund and seek legal action. This is totally unfair. The dealerships should be notifying people about this issue before selling these vehicles. My dealer didn't say anything about it... I didn't even have a clue about this. Toyota should disclose the root cause ASAP and resolve this.

Re: Engine Bay Body Rips

Cheese and crackers! Even though we all kinda knew this repair would be involved, when you look at those pictures, it sorta takes your breath away!

All the more reason to let Toyota come up with a real fix then go from there.

Or, just trade the frikkin' thing in and be done with it!

Deezus, I don't think I can find fault with your thinking along those lines. Unfortunately for me, the latter solution does not work so well because I have a bunch of mods on my truck which cost a substantial sum of cashola. I'd planned to hang on to my FJ for the next twenty years.

Maybe Toyota will come up with a cure, and once this is all behind us, the adversity of it all will serve to increase our love for our rigs and bring us all closer together; sorta like Jag owners in the pre-Chrysler era.

That's probably wishful thinking on my part.

I just hope like H-E-double toothpicks Toyota does something and tells us about it pretty dang soon! Their silence is absolutely deafening!

And then I find this thread. What a disaster. I will no longer be purchasing an FJ because I don't believe this issue will be resolved. Doesn't sound like it is an easy fix, but rather a fundamental design flaw.

So much for Totota's reputation. Sorry my first post had to be a negative one.

I understand your frustration. The problem is most of the dealers know even less than we do. I talked to my local dealer (who was helping find a TRD for some time, and sold my Mother her Tacoma) and he was shocked to find out I wanted to trade mine in. I had to inform him of this problem.

I understand the bind all the owners are in. I'm sure Toyota will take proper care of you guys.. who knows what they will do for those of us who bought used.

Don't get the wrong idea I'm very sad to see the FJ go. It is a very capable and impressive vehicle. Ill still be envious of you short-wheelbased-rubberized floor-atrac equipped FJ owners everytime I see one. What I won't be missing is checking my engine bay everyday and replacing windshields twice a year.

Also I just graduated college so the FJ was a pretty serious purchase for me. Unfortunatley not one that I'm willing to take this much risk on.

Re: Engine Bay Body Rips

Service manager checked out my rig (bulging on drivers side only) and decided to go ahead and call in the regional Toyota guy for a look. He'll let me know what happens. I'm hoping it's the same guy Bernd got! Even though Bernd's repair is scary looking, I would be more than happy to have mine fixed (or at least have a written statement saying it will be fixed if it actually tears) even if it involves this type of work.

With our limited knowledge of the causes of the bulges and tears, what are you basing your argument on? (Rumor or supposition, not facts). The percentage of owners with problems are less than 0.3% of the total ownership (my estimate) and we don't know if this is a defect or natural low percentage failure due variances during mill run. In my estimation, a person that tells another not to do business with a company (when he doesn't have supporting factual data) is exposed to legal charges of fraudulent behavior. If you have an issue, I suggest you register it with National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, otherwise you are exposed as an individual.

We all would like a hear the investigative results that Toyota has uncovered, but it may still be too soon to have finished conclusive testing. Like any large corporation, Toyota will conduct a legal review of the results before releasing information to the public. Most of us believe that Toyota will go the proper course to protect there quality reputation; however, the tribe grows more restless the longer silence goes on.

I would much rather the NHTSA conduct an investigation and make a determination, before the dreaded phrase "class action suit" is raised. We as consumers will get better satisfaction (my opinion) from government interaction than the "lawyer get rich" path.

What are the mods supposed to do? Ban him for expressing an opinion? Aside from the way he expressed it, until we know what's going on I'm not sure it's the wrong opinion.
