There was no specific procedure mentioned, the service tech. told me that he was told to let the body shop make the decision on what needed to be replace. As far as training or procedures I have seen nothing!!!!Have you actually seen this procedure?
Have I seen it ? no. But Toyota factory reps specifically told me they have initiated a training procedure, and they told me the names of body shops that have completed the training and were authorized to perform this repair with full factory warranty coverage on the repair. In fact, the shop I choose to use contacted Toyota corporate offices, received the training, and is now an authorized Toyota warranty repair shop for this procedure.
I have stressed certain things since this problem first appeared - contact toyota corporate offices, get a case number, and you will be contacted by a factory customer service rep who can guide you through the proper procedures for this repair. I, for one, would not let any shop touch my vehicle to perform this repair w/o the blessing of Toyota, for future warranty / repairs if needed (and I absolutely believe they will be needed, as I don't feel this repair will fix the problem...).
I suggest you reconsider the "short-cut", contact toyota, and have it done right...

I have a case # and Toyota has authorized the work, heck they are paying for it along with a rental. This alone commits them to warranty the work.
I just had a subaru fixed by the a subaru body shop after a minor hit and run ($3700 in damages). They provide a lifetime warranty on the work as standard practice (future rust, parts falling off, etc). Hopefully this is the case for this FJ repair, so you don't have to worry about it after the basic 36K/3yr warranty runs out.

As rean1mator has brought me back into this discussion, and try as I may to ignore his flaccid attempt to incite a riot or whatever, I will say: As an owner of one of these "rigs", I do have a problem as do all owners of these "rigs"-bulges or not. If I'm reading these posts correctly, the "fix" with the new panels are failing. I am assuming the new panels are the post 1/07 design. So far, Toyota has not acknowledged a problem. So, rean1mator, so long as Toyota fails to respond to this problem, we "rig" owners (you included if you actually fell for the hype and bought one) are SOL if our "rigs" fail after the warranty period. What, rean1, is the basis for your hypotheses that 1) I don't own one, and 2) that I don't enjoy my "rig" and 3) that I don't follow any other threads on this fine site? Just asking. It would seem that with such a condescending attitude, one would have to possess even a slight fascimile of intellectual endowment greater than that of a flea. I might be wrong, however. Now I'll go over to the used parts and interior/electronics threads to retro fit my "rig" with the steering wheel audio controls and 110v outlet in the back. Might even buy that roof top tent over there. The scanguage is great, by the way. I love the blue background color. The A-Trac switch install was ridiculously easy and I'm thinking of getting a touchsreen nav to replace the Magellan which keeps falling off the dash suction mount...Just to keep things on an even keel here, can you spell "apology" I wonder?

according to Toyota Customer Service, the repair will be warrantied for the remainder of the original warranty period, or as in my case where I will be out of warranty when the repairs are finally completes, 1 year from completion of the work...

Hardrive, I suggest you reread the posts. There is no mention of any "fix" failing. Concern that it may, but no failures. If you were paying attention, you would have read that the new panels are the post 01/07 panels.
I also suggest you keep your obviously tainted viewpoint to yourself and keep this post on subject as many other members and my self have suggested many times.
cheers,
dale

So my rips are being looked at by toyota's rocky mountain tech rep, who has been informed of the issue, apparently is in touch with Toyota (with a capital 'T'), and there has apparently been some meeting discussion about this.
I have a loaner fleet car for the moment, but expect the FJ back tomorrow afternoon, along with at least SOME news about their plans. I've made it clear to my local guys that some vehicles that have simpy had the panels replaced have had the rips reappear, and I've emphasized many of the issues we've discussed here (as well as discussed this forum itself).
Will let y'all know what I hear. I just hope it's "Toyota is working on a permanent fix."
