Re: Engine Bay Body Rips

Just another fact: My tires do hit the inner fender (BFG MT 285/75/R16).
The marks are clearly visible. No jumping involved - Just regular off road use...
If root cause or not is a question that has been discussed many times

Just got it back and took if off road for one day. You can already see the miss-alignment between hood and fender again. The fender rail shows some slight bending. No cracks yet - but I guess this is just a matter of time. Not a big surprise that this happens again, since the root cause did not get fixed.
I'm really sorry to hear that. Not good news at all, especially after hearing some other stories of the problem starting to return, even after the fix.

Hey Larry . . . . you might want to start another poll/thread in thsi section on how many of the already "fixed" FJ's are having return problems.

Re: Engine Bay Body Rips

well, i really didn't expect much of a change, since nothing changes by just replacing the inner fenders...
it was more an attempt to document things to have a chance to lemon the vehicle at one point - otherwise i would just loose way to much money with it...

i also do loose confidence in toyota to really come up with a fix.

Re: Engine Bay Body Rips

Hi Guys,
My Time to chime in.. I have a 8000 miles FJ with OME lift and ARB with a warn 9.5 running 295 Toyo MT. I was with Bernd on Black Friday and NWFJCC and he told me about it, mine is just starting to bulge. We looked at it at the begining of the trip and then I looked at it the next morning and it is bigger...

I don't jump mine at all and I just trail it gingerly, I drive it everyday so I can't break it on the trail.. This being said I do have lots of vibration in the ARB so I think there is somthing there..

But has anyone paid attition to the Poll. 47 Stock rigs with no mods at all have the same problem.. What is up with that? I don't think that it is the mods we have all put on it as it is more of a design flaw in the inner fenders..

I work for Toyota and will talk to the regional rep and the cheif tech for my area (NW) and see what they have to say...

Are you just saying that you see the ARB bumper vibrate around a lot???
All of them do this according to ARB when i asked. What you are seeing is the frame vibrating. You do not feel a good bit of these vibrations due to the body mounts. I was worried about it when i first drove it. I have had the ARB bumper on for almost two months and haven't seen any buldging, but i am keeping a close eye on it.

Re: Engine Bay Body Rips

Yes the ARB does vibrate a lot, what I am saying is that I don't think it causes the problem.. I think it is somthing else as there are 47 FJ's which have the rip and don't have any mods at all, according to the Poll, This is what concerns me, as if it is happening to the stock ones, why, I know Toyota very well and I can't think somethink like would have escaped them in the process of R & D at the Hino Plant in Japan..

I don't know what and won't know until I can talk to the guys at the factory this week, will report what they say, it just seem like a Ford issue not somthing Toyota would have missed...

Re: Engine Bay Body Rips

I definitely agree. I do not think it is an aftermarket bumper issue. How could something that weighs 150 pounds bend the huge steel frame enough to where it bends/rips the fender. It definitely seems to be a quality issue.

FJ Cruiser Frnder RIPS.....

To all Club members both on the forum and those we can all talk to who are not..:.

I just talked to Toyota and our region is wanting to get as much info as they can, so they can document all the FJ's with the problem and get them all fixed..

From Toyota: they know about this and are working on a permanent fix for it.. Toyota wants to get the fix right before they do a temp fix (which is what they have now)

Please send me the following so I can get a list to the region and we can take care of this problem.. Toyota wants to have everyone who have the issue to see the Tech’s from Toyota and have them document this so that they know who you are and can track the issue as it progresses through bulge to tear…

I have 2 dealerships so the Southern group can go to Gladstone in Portland and the Northern can come to Toyota of Lake City.

After we get all the Names and info I need I’ll pass it to Toyota Corp. and we will get a Time together at each dealership that is convenient for the club…

Thanks for your Help

Either blog me here or email @ 007fj@nwfjcc.com

Please provide the following:

Name
Address
Phone #
Mileage on FJ
VIN #

I will try to set up through Toyota to have you all meet on a Sat at each dealership in order to make it the most convenient to you all…

Thank you
Once I get enough info I'll schedule times at both stores.. Figure around the 1st of the Year. This is for WA and OR at this time.. I will let MT and ID know when Toyota will be out their way.

Re: FJ Cruiser Frnder RIPS.....

My issue has been brought to my local dealership...the rep has been contacted but no movement yet. (which is fine until they get a good fix). I'll get my info to you soon so that I can get in on the Saturday meeting. I just want it all documented well so I don't have any issues later on. Thanks for getting this rolling.
