Thumbs up Re: FJ Cruiser Frnder RIPS.....

I've yet to see if I get issues since my Sandstorm is still fairly new. Should I still provide you the info?

Also, thank you once again for the caps and key chains you handed out

Re: Engine Bay Body Rips

sounds like they might need to possibly do a buyback if the repairs are still failing.

Re: Engine Bay Body Rips

Has anyone with an '08 experienced any of the above symptoms? I only have 1400 miles so far on my '08 and check under the hood regularly. No cracks, rips, or bulges. Some folks have had there '08's for a little while now.

Do you know if they had to yank everything out of the dashboard like they did with bernd's?? Where did you have it done and what was the total "down time??"
They didn't touch the dashboard, I had it done locally in my hometown, it was down for 1 week. Dropped it off Monday and got it back Friday.

Exclamation Re: Engine Bay Body Rips

I contacted Toyota before thanksgiving about my buldges. I just took my car to Wondries Toyota in Alhambra for inspection. They contacted the field rep the same day and authorized repairs. This was the first they heard of the situation and were surprised. They are EXCELLENT on customer service at Wondries Toyota – The Alhambra Toyota dealer providing Glendale and Pasadena with quality new and used Toyota and Scion cars, trucks and SUV’s They are going to start repairs with supposed "revised" inner aprons. They said they will provide a rental car and 1 week turn around.

EXCELLENT!

I will keep you posted on the status and perhaps this would be the ideal place to drop your vehicle off in the San Gabriel Valley. They also own Wondries Collision Center also.

Now the great question... DO I HAVE THEM REPAIR IT OR NOT???? anyone?

That's the Million Dollar Question, I can tell you I had mine repaired just a couple of weeks ago, and the owner of the body shop felt like everyone one else, that is he doesn't believe the repair will be a permanent fix. He thinks that the cracks will appear again, it's just a matter of time.

To come to that conclusion he must have some idea of what is causing the problem to begin with. Is that the case??

Not necessarily. I won't jump off a ten story building, but I know it will hurt if I do. We've all speculated on various reasons for the problem, laced throughout this and other related threads, but until Toyota presses for the actual cause, we 're all left to guess.

IMO (and that of a growing number of shops, technicians, and regular folk), the cracked / bulged inner fender wells are a SYMPTOM of a larger problem.
No matter how many times you repair the symptom, the problem remains.
If you were to reinforce that inner fender apron, the crack would most likely transfer to the next weakest area - so installing the newer design aprons, with specific area reinforcement, will likely just delay and transfer the symptoms to another area of the vehicle.

Those of us with affected vehicles are anxiously awaiting the passage of time, to find out if any vehicles with the later model inner aprons show any symptoms. Same goes for repaired vehicles, of which we know, absolutely, of at least one that has failed AGAIN.

You don't need to know the solution to be able to recognize a problem...
