Re: Engine Bay Body Rips

Thought I would give a follow up on my truck as I've been seeing posts that refer to dimples with my name attached. I still have only dimples ( 11,387 miles ), no bulges or cracks, totally stock, some moderate off roading.

Don't believe my dimples were there when I purchased the truck, looked for bulges and cracks for weeks, then noticed the dimples. All this was documented back in those Oct. posts.

I have read every post on this thread. I am still hopeful ( and confident ) Toyota will find the actual cause of the problem and come up with a real fix. Good luck to all with the problem and I will occasionally up-date on the tgingles dimples if they ever change or develop into something worse.

Merry Christmas to all. Hope it was OK to say that, did not mean to offend anyone.

Re: Engine Bay Body Rips

Howdy folks-
My 1st post here.

Been lurking here for about 8 months...finally joined. Mostly browse for techie things and have been following the rear diff and engine bay issues for a while.

I have an 11/06 build with 14,000 miles and am just getting a small bulge on my drivers side crumple zone. Also changed my diff oil this weekend to find it THICK, BLACK & FULL OF METAL.

Both of these issues are disturbing to a first time Toyota owner (been a Honda guy for years).

Is this typical of Toyota? I thought they were comparable to Honda in quality.
My Hondas have all been nearly perfect for a total of well over 600,000 miles (3 vehicles, still own one).

I love the Cruisers functionality & performance, but these issues seem to be indicative of a sloppy manufacturer...

Don't want to be negative on my first post, but how about other Toyota lovers that have owned Hondas...is this just a "new model rushed to market anomaly"?! Or has Toyota slipped over the years in it's Q.C.?

Thanks!

Re: Engine Bay Body Rips

I have 30K+ on mine and haven't seen any bulging or rips. I added sliders and new tires at 25K. I have been offroad four times, all light to light-moderate. I want to say my mfg date was July-June of '06.

My warranty will be out soon, so hopefully no problems will develop on mine....

Thats the number one cause of concearn for the past few years at Toyota. Customer Satisfaction and Quality indexs have been slipping for the past 4 years straight... I guess we can count 07 as the 5 straight decline...

Re: Engine Bay Body Rips

Can someone snap a shot of their 2008 Engine bay please. I want to do some research and I will post my findings on here.

Thanks,

Jonathan Eckley

Re: Engine Bay Body Rips

Is this still a problem on the 08's? Did the factory do their fix for the new builds and just not figured out yet what to do with the 06 and 07 builds? I'm getting close to purchasing but something keeps telling me to hold off a little longer. Thanks, Jim

Re: Engine Bay Body Rips

the problem does not happen to everyone so thats a risk you going to have to make theres some people that never go off road have the problem and then theres people who go off road all the time and don't get the problem.

my point of view would be get the fj when you do have the problems toyota nows about it and there going to fix under warranty anyways so get the truck and enjoy it. I check under the hood once a week when i get gas. 3.4k 08 no problems has been off road.

this would not stop me from purchasing the fj at all. i have not had this problem . But I am willing to bet you that if this speculation on the fj is an issue with you . then buying one would only cause you stress on this issue imo. The fj is an awesome vehicle and if you did have this trouble they will fix it. I have never had any trouble out of toyota getting anything within reason fixed, but i have never had any trouble with a toyota manufacured vehicle. I would prob be more afraid to buy a toyota made in the usa than Japan.

I know some probably disagree, but we each have our own opinions. right!
good luck with your decision..

Re: Engine Bay Body Rips

I posted a picture of the dent I saw in December back in page 205. I took a picture of the dent today and I can't tell if looks bigger or not. To me it seems a little deeper than it used to be but I'm not sure. What do you guys think?
