anyone else heard about this? If its true, good news for the ones with affected fenders. I wonder if they will replace unaffected ones prior to the warranty running out? That is assuming this is a good as it sounds.
Thanks, dave.
I think it's funny that they call us "the blue room". Heh.

This is pretty interesting--what is posted on IH8MUD.com. Can we get confirmation of this through one of our supporting vendors?
From IH8MUD: "Just heard from the Toyota factory rep that Toyota has engineered new fender aprons with support brackets welded to the inside (of the aprons).
They will be going into production vehicles ASAP. Right now, they offerered to fix my truck by replacing the fender aprons and welding the newly designed brackets in. Or, they said I can wait until the new fender aprons go into production with the brackets affixed to them. I said I'd wait.
NOTE TO ALL OWNERS: TOYOTA MIGHT NOT TAKE CARE OF THIS OUTSIDE THE ORIGINAL 36-k/3 YEAR WARRANTY. EVEN IF YOU HAVE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY (read the fine print.sheet metal is NOT included in extended warranty). I was told I would have to get this repair done BEFORE the factory warranty expired. "

I also read on the same forum, perhaps even the same thread, that those new aprons won't be available until late summer. They will appear in production vehicles in the fall

Btw, I just purchased a brand new '08 FJ Cruiser unaware of the issue at hand. I am very disappointed to say the least. I already emailed Toyota simply to express my concern. I will also be contacting my friend at the dealership at which I bought the vehicle to see if he knows anything. He is part of the management team there. I'll be around my truck tomorrow to check production date and the status of the fenders. As I tack on mileage and hear back from my friend, I'll keep you guys updated. It is completely stock with convenience package and offroad package.
Quick question, when you guys say the Prados are also afflicted with the same problem, do you mean the 4runners?
I, as of yet, have not had any bulges or tears, but rest assured if I do, whether it's within the factory warranty or not, it will be getting replaced FOC. This is a case where Toyota needs to step up and issue a recall before their good name is lost which will cost them more in the long run. Besides, they can afford it:
While American rivals like General Motors and Ford have reported losses of billions of dollars in recent years, Toyota announced its seventh consecutive year of record earnings, bolstered by the popularity of its fuel-efficient vehicles. Toyota said net profit jumped about 20 percent in the fiscal year ended in March, to 1.64 trillion yen, or about $13.68 billion.
That's one years NET(!) profit!

oh great. By summer my FJ will be in Germany. Hope I can still get these, if there should be a recall.... I'd better talk to the CA dealer soon, eh?
