Re: Engine Bay Body Rips

Ok guys........I'm in. After a serious cleaning and a thorough inspection of the engine compartment (I've been overheating and no one knows why), I finally noticed the bulge and a nice rusted rip on the passenger side.

I'm out of warranty so now what?

I'd say, get it to a dealer and get it documented anyway (regardless of your mileage).

If there ends up being a blanket recall or official TSB repair mandate issued, then yours should probably be covered since it was an initial manufacturer defect to begin with.

Thanks, Steve. I'll call my service guy tomorrow.

Re: Engine Bay Body Rips

VDM, sorry to hear about the rips. Please let us know how it goes with TMC. Many of us are concerned as to how TMC will take care of those of us whose rips are documented are after the basic warranty expires. Hope all goes well.

Re: Engine Bay Body Rips

I would say no.

By filing this as a claim, you would seem to be acknowledging the situation was the result of an “accident” of some sort outside of the vehicle that caused the ripping. The consensus here is that this condition is caused as the result of a design flaw, not caused by an outside factor….

Re: Engine Bay Body Rips

I rarely visit this thread anymore because of frustration. These vehicles have been on the road for 2 years with a known issue. Toyota has not properly addressed it in any manner. Anybody want to lay money on whether this issue gets resolved in another 2 years?
