Do you have new inner fender aprons or just the brace?

-Ben
I just had mine fixed and they did both. Im told the brace is very recent. As Bodgas said you cant see the brace. Also as you can see in his pics the inner fender is totally different in mine too.

The sad thing is, this will satisfy the NHTSA. Be careful what you wish for.

Re: Engine Bay Body Rips

The service department said the fix will be in sometime in July. I will get photos, if they let me, and part numbers.

Has anyone noticed an alignment problem with their hood? I posted the following: Hood Adjustment

Re: Engine Bay Body Rips

The FJ is currently in the body shop for a second go-around for inner fender replacement. Its my understanding there's a new part number for the inner fenders. A new design...? I have made arrangments with the body shop to shoot pic's that will document the R&R process. If there is a new design, I will shoot pictures of old and new inner fenders and post them on the forum.

There is another problem I have heard no mention of, The lower, front fender supports braking at spot welds. I don't have pic's. Both supports are broken on my FJ. I am speculating here, but this might weaken the fender assembly causing the cracks and bulging that some have experienced.

Meanwhile could some of you check your lower front fender supports. Are the supports broken? You will not be able to tell just by looking. You will need to reach up and try to move the support with your hand. It will move easley if the welds have broken. Please let me know. Thanks Relic Hunter

My drivers side front fender bracket spot welds failed about a month after inner fender bulges started

Re: Engine Bay Body Rips

Carried mine in for service on Tuesday. Told my service guy to see what he could find out. He looked at the truck, said he'd never seen or heard of this but would check it out. He called this morning and the rep was in town and wanted to see the truck. The rep had already called Toyota before I got there. He had never heard of this either but Toyota (over the phone) gave him an immediate go ahead to fix the truck sight unseen. I had to tell him about the braces and all you guys with this same problem. He wants to do some research.

I told him I would wait until there was true fix. If the brace is the fix, then fine. He wants to make sure they're not just testing that brace. Mine is out of warranty and heavily modified at 44,000 mi. The rep gave me no arguments and was not at all concerned with the mods or the fact that it had been offroad. He seemed very concerned and wanted to find the real fix. I told him he definitely cannot have the truck til after Moab and Ouray.

We'll see what happens.

Re: Engine Bay Body Rips

This is very good news. It looks like Toyota is authorizing fixes even
after the warranty has expired.

Good luck with the repairs.

If these brackets are to blame, don't you think we could just drill a couple holes and add bolts to keep them in place?

Thanks,

Thanks,
While what you suggest may be a temporary fix to the bracket issue, IMHO it would be a band-aid on the actual problem.

Personally, I'd not do anything and let Toyota work through this. While frustrating to those who do and do not have the problem, it appears that Toyota is slowly taking appropriate action... Yes, I said slowly, very slowly...

cheers,

dale
