There is a 3rd generation inner fender apron being tested by Toyota as we speak (type). The testing should be done by late summer, and if successful, the new inner fender apron will be integrated into FJC production models, and used to retrofit all models with the bulge / rip issue. Until that time, I'm going to sit tight, despite the new rips I have developing in the middle of the inner fender apron below the crush zone and above the liner lip...
Where do you get your information? Is it documented? My dealer acts like I am the only one with this problem. (then they say they are checking on it, but they refuse to call me back regarding any of the issues I have had)

Any official info would be good
Therein my friend lies the problem. Toyota has not accepted responsibility on a national level and will leave it to be handled on a case by case. So you will be at the whim of your regional rep. We are almost 2 years down the road and we still don’t know if we are covered within the original warranty period or what happens beyond 36K and if there is really a complete and effect fix…so the saga continues:

Everytime I read one of CruiserLarry's postings I feel at ease about what Toyota's response to this will be....then I read others in a panic and the sweat pumps start up......I do think we tend to 'knee jerk' this problem a lot on this forum......Larry, the info you put out about covering them under warranty or not and the new revised fender testing, you got that from a Toyota regional guy right? Does anyone else have any CONCRETE information that is not speculation. (I actually got to use the word spectulation and wasn't discussing oil prices)

I am getting my info from a Toyota factory rep who is working on my specific case. Much of what I've posted I have confirmed with others in the So Cal area who are dealing with the same problem.
There is no official documented info because Toyota has not resolved the problem officially yet - they are still working on the situation. I would direct your local rep to this forum, this thread, and have them do some reading. Toyota has different regional offices, so it is possible the regional center servicing Virginia has different info than the West Coast center (and corporate offices for the USA). File a complaint with Toyota, document it at the dealership, file a complaint with the NHTSA, and Toyota will contact you. Everyone in So Cal who requested repairs has received them at no charge to the best of my knowledge - but I have no idea why it would be handled differently for other areas of the country....Good Luck

Toyota like every automobile company will deny that there is a problem until most of thier leases are up,generally 3yrs,then most of the vehicles will be out of warranty, then they will do a recall and do this recall in a systematic fashion so that they don't get swamped with recalls at one time.At that time they will assess each vehicle and determine which one is covered and which one is not, until then we should ALL enjoy our fj's to the fullest of thier capabilities. Those who have mods will obviously have more difficulty getting this problem addressed ,based on a dealer to dealer exprience good luck to all and happy trails. Just my 0.02 worth!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well Larry ....You've been working this for a very long time now and the trouble seems to be a lack of knowledge at the dealer level.....
What say you?...Start a link/fax dump....were everyone who does in fact have a legit repair reciept to upload/fax a copy. So every dealer in the US can see invoice after invoice of Toyota repair reciepts.....Then the few guys that HAVE had any issues with it being covered under warranty would have a nice big ammo box to fight with....
I know a few who would have nice repair copys to submit.....
Slight bulge as of this past Sunday. Definitely no bulge before this happened.

Didn't see the ditch I was coming up on, probably doing about 10 MPH. The ditch dropped straight off and came right back up, kinda like a U. It wasn't even deep enough to bottom out.
Dropped down, came right back up, front wheels came off the ground, came back down hard. Got out, popped the hood, new bulge.
