Holy S---........... Wow, this is interesting....

With one who has done wheeling with bernd I was curious to see if my rig is the same way...... But my rig is stock height and stock bumper..... No wrinkle in my fender well..... Looks all straight!!!

Now after reading all of this, and People might be tired of reading this but I have a question that I didn't see answered!!!!!

Do any of you with the bulge and/or cracks have any under armor??? I would think this might help with the body flex, I think the bulge would still happen but might help with the crack........ What do you all think???

Anyone???? Anyone????

Re: Engine Bay Body Rips

Now the 6 people who voted Stock Bumper/No Lift.... Did they read the poll correctly???? Or were they voting because they saw what their rigs are????

Hey Mods, can you contact those people and ask them if they have a bulge and/or cracks???

My thought: screw the "crumple zone" It's still going to crumple. Trace the shape of the side of that rib (which tapers slightly) on 1/8" sheet steel and cut it out to reinforce about two feet of the rib starting at the firewall. Grind the paint off of the edges and tack weld it with half-inch beads along the top and bottom every 3 inches or so. If there's real crumpling going on, those welds will snap. The presence of this extra piece of metal will be no more burden in your lap than the engine, the bumper and the winch are already.

Keep it simple.

Re: Engine Bay Body Rips

while its just the body ?

OK the thing that holds the doors on holds your hood on etc.. is failing ? well lets say for paranoid sake that the crack is there gets a touch larger and changes the length of the top fender area so now where the hood latchs and the hood hinges has changed enough on a hard road bump the hood flys up and the crack length made is to the safety latch did not work and the hood wraps around the windshield !!!

fact is that part while just the body is a major part of the car that seems to be failing

I would still love it to get the info on the year and month of build and see if there is anything with this

paranoid ? sure but again something is wrong if its one or two who jump I can understand but this many ? makes me wonder

Re: Engine Bay Body Rips

Can someone get on a lot with some 08's and see if they have changed that area at all? The next person to see a Trail Team also needs to look under the hood of their wheeled FJ.
