Re: Engine Bay Body Rips

You Guys also need to compare production dates is could be that the robot over pressed them ribs to strong overstressing them panels.
i had predicted something like this would happen on a ARB bumper shimmy thread before but this is too early.
someone mentioned springs or softer mounts but that would contribute to the basketball effect the front end frame has,
i also belive that a better built skid plate would help,
This will be a big seller for who ever find a fix in the aftermarket side

The day someone gets crushed in a accident (God Save us all ) and cracks were found on those supports then the rest would consider it a serious problem, This is a safety issue and if it happens on a new car then it will lower its value,
a ford pinto just went thru my mind
My first Toyota Dang.......... a Cracked glass and then a expected bulge then a crack,at least i see them coming
Anyone with a TRD has them Yet?

Just woke up and saw the thread. My photos are over there now, too.

I'm sure you'll see more as the thread is discovered.

Re: Engine Bay Body Rips

I narrowed the time frame down a little on mine.

This photo was taken on 5-14-07 when I posted up pics of my winch bumper install and was showing the solenoid box in the engine compartment.

And, this was discovered a few days ago when bernd contacted me and suggested that I check my FJ.

So, sometime after my winch bumper install and/or during my 5700 mile roundtrip to Ouray (and some other mild off-roading while out west), I ended up with the cracks.

But, who knows what specifically brought it about. The winch bumper? The long cross-country drive? A rut at Engineers Pass? A speed bump at Arby's? Or, maybe like others have already implied . . . . just good old fashioned repetitive flexing of paper-thin sheet metal.
