I just spent an hour photoing and trying to explain what is going on here....am I on everyone's "ignore" list or what????
not at all dude! we fully appreciate your input!
also special thanks to you!
and yes, the bumper can play a role in this. but for now i'm still convinced that the root cause is the tire running into the fender. looking at my truck, there is a lot of evidence for this. but i hope we will soon find out about the details with the help of this community!
"so the frame flexes 2+ inches....the bumper has nowere to go but into the body...the body just "absorbs" all that???"
If the frame is flexing that much (maybe this frame isn't all its "cracked" up to be), the clip is flexing with it. That alone could cause the crack you're seeing. The rubber insulators on the front body mounts aren't going to give that much. If the bumper is too close to the body when this happens it will damage the sheet metal in that area, but I can't see it causing those cracks. I still don't think it's the bumpers. Again, is anyone w/o a lift having this problem?

As a total newbie to this forum, I realize my place. Still, it seems to me this problem is most likely boiling down to an aftermarket bumper that hasn't provided adequate space from the FJ frame. Maybe I just want to believe that... whatever. I too have an ARB bumper and have gotten a small amount of unintentional air shooting up a ridge at too high a speed, came down fairly hard on the front end and learned not to accelerate into the unkown. Thankfully, I have no cracks to show for it. I never heard or felt anything upon landing and upon inspection today, all is well.
I can understand those with these cracks have a need to assign blame. Ruling out user-error first of course. Next on the blame-list is the vehicle manufacturer, then the aftermarket manufacturers - I'm reminded of the so-called 'Unintended Acceleration Syndrome' in the 80's - which of course turned out to be people mashing the gas instead of the brake.
I guess I agree with homedadr

Reason: Idiocy
bernd, thank you for posting this thread! it seems it is now taken serious...
the first few time this issue got addressed the people mainly got flamed for it.
we will stay in touch and hopefully find a solution for this problem.
anyone else out here who has this problem, please send me an email or a priv. message with the contact information. the more evidence and people we get together the better! i'm happy to coordinate some actions...
LOL, the first few times folks admitted or we had pics of them jumping the rigs. Thus the flames.

ok pal...now I'm going to take fender photos...you have 13 posts here...I've been wheelin for many many many years....the guy said he did NO FLYING...I ASSume you are looking for a class action on this....Toyota did a damn good job on a first year run truck....I DO take mine flying and have NEVER bent a body part doing so...the friggin bumper is the problem...it needs room for FRAME FLEX!!!!!!
first photo.....nice smooth crush points
second photo...the stupid screw that DOES hit when flying...notice it's bent to hell on mine
third photo...body mounts NOT chopped...cause you don't need to with 285's even if you rock climb AND fly

i do not disagree with your statement. but an upward buckled inner fender rail directly above the tire, including tire marks on the inner fenders gives a very clear sign, doesn't it? a bumper can result in additional stress due to flex limitations, which can make the situation worse and could also lead to the cracking... and i never gut air either!
One of the craziest things I've ever seen. Glad this is all being documented - we can create a new TLC show and call it FJCCSI (FJ Cruiser Carnage Scene Investigator).
