Re: Engine Bay Body Rips
hey, a question for you all----
has anyone noticed the amount of cowl shake you get when driving on a rough road or when you hit a pot hole on the freeway? that might have something to do with our cracks.

Good question.
I've always felt the cowl shake on mine was a little excessive. You expect some on a capable 4WD, but my brush guard wobbles a little to much IMO.
The "rips" issue is the third of what I consider serious quality / production / design problems. The water leaking problem was the first where the driver's side seat belt gets wet from rain. Then there is the poor material used on the seats, where excess wear is seen on the sides of the seat from the material not being able to hold up to rubbing from everyday in/out of vehicle.
I would add to that the water leaks from the front windshield seal and roof rack mounts, the poorly hardened rear-end gears that bit Homedad and others, and transfer case problems.
When you add the whole record up it starts to look like Chrysler territory, even for a new model. If the truck weren't so much fun to drive, and so tight that it takes bumps with nothing by a "whup whup", and didn't have excellent power delivery and trail performance I'd be buffing the stripes out of mine and taking shots for Autotrader already. You just have to worry about what else will happen.
But then what would I replace it with? A Jeep? Meh. I might joke about Chrysler, but I won't buy one. XTerra? Considered that; just don't like the looks. Four-door taco 4WD? If I wanted to spend that much I would have had lots of other options anyway. I'm stuck with my FJ.

Re: Engine Bay Body Rips
ok guys, i have more great news.
I got a call this morning from my toyota dealership. my service rep told me to come down and drop off my truck so that it can be repaired. he said the sooner i got it in the better because toyota wants to look at it.
so now my truck is currently in the shop being repaired. toyota is covering the costs of the repair and the cost of my rental (chrysler minivan ). they will be removing the entire panel and replacing it completely.
no eta on when i will get it back, but i know from personal experiences to not rush body shops.
toyota is watching this repair very closely. my guess is that they will take my panel and use that for some r&d to figure out what is going on.
there is light at the end of this tunnel, and for most of us it will be coming even sooner than you think.
i might be able to get some pics of the truck while it is being repaired. i dont know if the repairs will be done at the dealership's body shop or at toyota the toyota headquarters.
