Question Re: Engine Bay Body Rips - Any problems on the 08's

Does anyone know if this problem exists on the new 2008 models? I was looking into buying a new FJ but now with this problem have been waiting to see what happens with the FJ.

Also how about the Trail Teams Edition, has there been any cases of body rips on this model?

I'm in the exact same boat - was planning to purchase a TT tomorrow but after reading this thread I have decided against it. Such a bummer.

Re: Engine Bay Body Rips - Any problems on the 08's

I asked one dealer about the 2008 models, if they have corrected the problem and he said that he hasn't heard of Toyota doing any improvement with the stress crack things.

So either Toyota has not done anything to remedy the problem or they might have fixed it on the new model and have not said anything, I guess only time will tell.

Re: Engine Bay Body Rips

Mine is under the knife. Went in 6 weeks ago and finally a legit fix. There is a brace sent to the dealership from Japan. These are welded onto new aprons (not sure 07 or 08). I believe it to be a boxed in type of brace meaning there are 4 sides. I am visually inspecting it on friday. The bodyshop manager has been super cool to deal with on this and Im sure it will go just as planned.

Any others have a "fix" issued yet?

Re: Engine Bay Body Rips

This is a very large thread and I don't think adding my 2cents will probably do anything but I gonna post my BULGES anyway. I have an appointment with the MAC Toyota Service Monday 5-19 in hopes of resolution to this and a dry pulley noise. I have 33k on my '07 FJC and am not an extreme off-roader. I will post the results of the servicing.
Here are photos of the bulges:

Thanks for listening........

Please post pics if you can. Also if possible can you get the part number for the brace.
Thanks
Bernd

Re: Engine Bay Body Rips

Sorry I forgot the part number while there. The brace goes all the way to the front of the inner fender. I couldnt get a pic because it is welded from the inside. I do have pics of the outcome....

finally back home....

Do you have new inner fender aprons or just the brace?

Re: Engine Bay Body Rips

So, i assume that this is now a warranty repair issue. Does this mean that any FJ with this problem can go to their local dealership and get this "fix"??
