Engine Bay Body Metal fatigue Issue Pole and PHOTOS ONLY

Folks,

I an effort to try and get some better stats on this problem I have setup a very simple pole. The attempt it to see if we can get a percentage of the FJs on the forum that are having this issue.

The problem is metal fatigue and fatigue cracks in the crumple zone on body metal above the fender. This problem is seen on both the left and right sides. (see photos) Careful inspection will also show the metal starting to bulge in the same area.

Please be sure of the status of your FJ with respect to this issue. Use the following picture to help clarify. If your FJ shows this problem please post a picture here.

Lets keep the discussion of this confined to the original thread -> Engine Bay Body Rips

Re: Engine Bay Body Metal fatigue Issue

My FJ does not show this problem. I have OME Medium lift and the Lucrum winch mount with the Warn 8000 winch. Stock-size BFG's. Not even the hint of a bulge. And I wheel on a fairly regular basis with Bernd and my FJ Club on its outings. Bernd is a crawler-wheeler. No jumps or showboating. That is definitely not his style or with any of the others in the Northwest FJ Cruiser Club.

It's a multiple vote poll, so the people that don't have the problem also voted that they don't wheel.

I was one of them, just don't have a good location to wheel around me. Sorry if I wasn't supposed to vote twice.

That's what I was wondering, too.

Does the poll results make a connection between those with the problem and those who've mod'd, haven't mod'd, wheel, dont' wheel, etc.

In other words, anyone who doesn't have this problem will also be taking the poll and might select mod or no mod, but we won't know whose affected FJ is connected with the mod/no mod, wheel/no wheel selctions. Does that make any sense??

I would say get rid of one of those questions, but they are both important questions really. And it's hard to pick one over the other.

Re: Engine Bay Body Metal fatigue Issue

No it does not make a connection between the votes. However if you click on the pole it shows who has voted for what so we can see that info. The pole capability of the forum seems limited. This will also allow us to eliminate dual votes and errors easy.

Re: Engine Bay Body Metal fatigue Issue

I guess another way of asking would be Who has modded and wheeled with no problem, and who has modded and not wheeled.

Re: Engine Bay Body Metal fatigue Issue

So San Antonio is the only one who has this problem, yet has neither modded nor wheeled his FJ, correct? Can he please post pics? And does he intend to take it in? I'd be interested in how Toyota handles it.
