Exclamation Engine Bay Cracks

Hello Everyone!

As you can see, the topic on the engine bay body bulge/cracks is really taking off! Thanks everyone for the inputs and the valuable discussions. I guess now it is time to get organized:

I suggest as a first step to collect personal information from people having this problem. The idea is to approach Toyota with some hard facts. With a reasonable number of people, we can for sure put some pressure on Toyota, so that they take this serious. I did establish contact with Toyota Executive Offices in Torrance, CA some time ago. Unfortunately with little effect. I would like to use this contact again, but as mentioned, with a list of people who deal with this problem.

I would expect that a car manufacturer would fight such an issue as much as possible, since it involves big $. Depending on their reaction, it need to be decided of how to proceed. But first, give them the chance to respond...

If you are dealing with a bulge or a crack in the engine bay as described in the thread "Engine Bay Rips", and want to support this approach, I ask you to fill out the attached form and email it to

gerhard@antistatic.com

I appreciate your time and your help! Let me know if you have any further suggestions...

Regards,

Gerhard

Great job on the form! I feel that the vin will be an important issue here. I am not experiencing any problems (yet). Could you modify your form for that and maybe mileage (at which it was noticed). I am thinking just as a way of tracking all of the FJ's, with or without cracks (again, at this point. it sure sounds like it will probably happen to everyone sooner or later).

thanks

Thanks for the question: just mark "NO" for the questions "Have you experienced a bulge / crack" - that should do it...

Re: Engine Bay Cracks

Since not all of the FJ owners are online, I thought about how we can reach also these people. I created a flyer which anyone of you could print out and post at Off Road shops in your area. I hope that these shops would support us on this.
I'm happy to collect and process the forms which are forwarded to me. The more we collect the better off we are...

I guess it would be too much to ask a Toyota dealership to post this flyer

Thanks for your support guys!

Re: Engine Bay Cracks

You want to post flyers? Did you get 40+ forms back yet? Thats a pretty good number to approach Toyota.
