Purchased FJ in May-got sick and ended up in hospital. Just know getting ready to modify-was supposed to put OME on tomorrow. Reading about body rips/tears and decided not to do any modifications. Love vehicle but do not want it if I can not modify for off-road. Once these problems are well known, vehicle resale will probably be nill. Any suggestions?

Welcome Long Rifle!!
I would probably wait to see where all of this is going before trading out of your FJ. It could be something as simple as a easy fix on Toyota's part (fingers crossed), and/or perhaps some logical preventative measures can be taken for those FJ's not affected yet. In either case, I'd hate to see you (or anyone else) take a major depreciation hit on a such a relatively new vehicle by bailing out too soon. Plus, I'd hate to see you give up an vehicle that is so much more off-road competent than a Rubicon.
By the way, make sure you head on over to the Newbies Introduction section and say hello to everyone.
I think you should do some more extensive testing. I'll take it for a week if you like and let you know my analysis.
p.s. The only reason you are getting flack for this is because it's your first post and it's pertaining to something of this manner. People probably think your just troll trying to cause a stir of negativity toward the FJ.

You guys can't really blame him, at all. It's one thing to love the FJ, and another to act like the bodies ripping on lifted (and maybe stock) trucks is just some little issue Toyota will fix under warranty. These are all young vehicles. Something is seriously wrong, and until I hear an official explanation from Toyota I wouldn't buy one if I planned to do any rough offroading. I'm not sure I would buy one even if I wasn't going offroad. In fact, I am sure. If I read that thread and saw those pictures before I made my deal, no way in hell I would buy one. That would be an emotional reaction to the sight of torn metal, obviously, and not a scientific analysis, but I bet a lot of potential buyers who cruise through here are going to experience that attitude adjustment.
Fortunately I just do soft trails in the pines, and don't have an issue. But keep this in mind: you can fatigue a piece of metal quickly, or you can fatigue it slowly. Who knows what the rest of us face after five or ten years of less intense wheeling?

yeah, trade it. You sound more like a Heep guy anyway. lol
No. Actually I kinda get the feeling that he's more of a Toyota 4-Runner and recent 4x4 Tacoma guy. Not to mention, possibly a International Scout and FJ-40 enthuisast with about 40 years of off-roading experience. (But then again, that's just a wild guess. )

I have both, and while they each have their respective good and bad points, I still prefer the FJ over the jeep. The wife drives the jeep and says she loves it. Conservative mods to the FJ are the way to go for a daily driver. I did a Toytec 3" lift and absolutely love it. It all boils down to personal preference. Personally I feel the FJ is a better built vehicle.
