I got into my fj the other morning, and i noticed that when i push on the brake it makes a puffing noise...it did it all that morning then stopped..
but it started it again, so all weekend its been on and off again, i amd taking it to the dealer in the morning, but he had sounded like it didn't really matter, i just wanted to know if anyone else has had the same problem.

Yep, I've had the problem since the FJ was new. I took it to the dealer and they said it was "normal". But, my brakes feel spongy as well... Which usually indicates air in the brake lines...
So, I'm taking it back and reminding them again of the problem.
Welcome to the forum!!! Very informative and fun!

got bake from the dealer, the tech said it was normal, that it was the computer releasing the air from the brakes, that if i had a problem with the brakes that my check engine light is suppose to come on..
so, i will know if he lied when me and my kids crash through a buliding
other than that, i have no other problems with mine.

Hmmm, there is no way a computer can release "air" from a sealed brake line...
But, since the FJ is my first Toyota and other forum members say it's normal I'd tend to believe my fellow forum members over a tech that told me the computer releases air...

Lol I don't get the computer releasing air bit, that's pure crap, but I have this sound too, if it's in the DEAD of night and you're driving alone w\ no music and windows up, it gets annoying.
requiring more and more pressure to hold the vehicle at a stop indicates trouble. and the FJC has a spongy pedal if your other car was a sports car or something.
feels firm compared to old chevy trucks.
the 'pfft' is normal unless the above happened.
my GMs do the same.

well, i have no idea on the brake part...i have had 3 toyotas before, i have driven a wide variety of vehicles in my life....
but...gm trucks, cars, and also the chevys..since the are family..has never did that unless something was wrong...we have a 91 c1 chevy and the brakes work very well, with no puffing noise....
but, we'll know soon enough about this air release thing i guess..
