I need some feed back on RR locker problem

I need to know on average how long it should take for the RR locker to engage? When I first got the truck it would take about 15 to 20 seconds usually for the locker to engage now about ten months later it takes anywhere from 30 seconds to over a minute. I found in the past going forward and reverse will help it engage quicker. This past weekend I came upon a steep rock hill so I pushed the RR locker button and had to drive back about 20 feet and then forward about 7 or 8 times. That has been the longest it ever took. The weird thing is once it's engaged and I push the button to shut it off it comes out instantly and if I leave it in four low and drive down the trail a little ways and push the RR button it will engage within seconds. If I put it back into all wheel drive(6mt) then go back to 4 low the problem come back.
I'm taking it to the dealer Thursday or Friday to talk to them about this, but I wanted to get some feed back or ammunition from you guys in case they tell me this is normal or it's still working so we can't replace it under warranty. The trucks got 25000 miles on it so if this is a problem I want to get it fixed soon before I hit the magic number of 36000 miles.
As a side note I never tried engaging the RR locker while trying to climb over something or going threw something(I know better then to do that). It has always been on level ground with very little stress on the drive train. Any info on this would greatly be appreciated.

This was recently discussed in another thread. I don't recall which one, but try the "search" function and you will find some discussion on it.

Re: I need some feed back on RR locker problem

Forward and back will make little or no difference...what you need to do is TURN back and forth to engage or dis-engage the locker....It's a long story about binding, but that's the quick answer.....need more info...just ask...we'll help ya out....

I just did a search and found the thread you where talking about thanks. It sounds like a lot of people are have this problem and it dosen't sound like their is a fix other then turning side to side. I'm surprised to hear this because in the owners manual with the fj as well as other toyotas with the e locker it recommends to only use the e locker if you are stuck. I would not want to have this engage while your stuck with only one rear tire spinning. I was also curiuos does running bigger tires delay the engagement, it seemed to work a lot faster before I went up to a larger tire?
