Well, crap, paint chips galore! Advice please...

Well, finally took a good long look at my rig, and it's most noticeable in the dark w\ a flash light...the entire center of the hood has little paint chips everywhere, almost little dots, there are some on the side of the vehicle as well..can someone give me some help on what exactly I should say\do when I take it to Toyota? I never thought I would have to deal with a problem like this...but man...this blows. Thanks in advance for any help.

The paint chips, and there isn't much you can do about it other than put some protective film on there. I had mine filmed right after I got it, and it has prevented most of that problem. Sucks to have to spend bucks to preserve the paint, but we have a combination of soft paint, lots of close to vertical surfaces, and really dirty roads everywhere these days.

There have been some reports of people getting a respray from their dealer due to chipping, but I think yours will need to progress past where you need a flashlight to see it before you might be elligible.

My 2 cents, I cannot wait til mine gets that way and scratched, after that I will feel more comfortable, after all I am expecting it to get this way, and it's not for show in my eyes, its for long jevity... ya see my point. I hope. sorry about your chips though. I like to go get mine muddy, and fo get about it. its a hard change to make after having street cars to keep shiny and waxed all the time.

But now I will have more time to just enjoy this awesome Toyota.!

Re: Well, crap, paint chips galore! Advice please...

Meh...this seems like a VERY common problem, I'm not going to stand for a paint job that is already starting to look like crap with only 5,000 miles on it. You guys might be able to, I can't, I paid 32k for this vehicle, and I'm just not going to stand for crappy quality like that. I'm pretty sure they will repaint the car, I was just looking for any advice on what to ask\tell them. There is no way they can say this is "wear" since it is only 5,000 miles, and the paint chips are literally covering the entire hood, and they are small dot paint chips, clearly not "rock chips". What I plan to do is get this in the system, and get the "OK" for it, then get it repainted right before my warranty is up.

I don't mind the paint chipping. Pretty much par for the course these days with the enviro-friendly paint. My Lexus did the same thing. Get some touch up paint, paint protective film, and start saving for a new paint job. Me, I can't wait to Line-x my whole truck or go with a flat grey w/black roof.

Re: Well, crap, paint chips galore! Advice please...

I've wondered, if you spring for an aftermarket respray, can you still get the "good" paint, with all the nasty solvents that make it nice and hard? What's the best paint for a durable respray?
