Body rips on used FJ?

I just found this forum, and discovered the numerous threads on body rips/bulges. I'm going to look at a used FJ this week that a local dealer got in for us.

My question is, if I find rips or bulges, should I buy it? How much should I have taken off the price?

Thanks

Re: Body rips on used FJ?

I would say, NO WAY. We do not know the ramifications of this yet, nor the remedy. There is no way in hell I would invest in one with rips. I've had mine since June 06, I LOVE my truck and have no bulges/rips, but I am very concerned about this issue. Concerned enough that if we find that the issue was fixed with the new style panels, I WILL be trading mine for an 08 with those new panels, even though I don't have the problem yet, and I would hope that Toyota and my dealer will give me one HELL of a deal on trade.
We'll see.

Re: Body rips on used FJ?

check out the body rip page and read at least the last 20 pages. Toyota appears to be responding very well to the problem and apparently will fix it. My thought is... If you find a FJ and the price is right, go for it!!!

I'd make sure it is still in warranty tho...

If it has no rips or bulges, grab it. Seems that Toyota is working on the problem and they normally stand behind their product 100%

Re: Body rips on used FJ?

Thanks for the input. I looked the truck over today, the first thing I did was pop the hood and check out the fender wells, there were no rips or bulges.

I hope to pick it up tomorrow, after the dealer does a safety inspection and installs new tires.
