Angry Pre-paid maintenance = Just oil changes? = Rip-off!!!

So I hit 15000 mile service and was looking forward to getting my differential fluid changed since the trail teams said its very important since that have have blew some. Come to find out Toyota's prepaid service only covers basic oil change!!
I was pissed , I paid $800 dollars!!!For the Pre-Paid maint program. The service manager called TFS who sells the dang thing they said not its not just oil changes we cover tire rotation too. Big Fing Deal!!! I feel ripped off. Anyone else have pre-paid maint?
But you got to be kidding me prepaid maint, needs to be called pre-paid oil changes!!!

Re: Pre-paid maintenance = Just oil changes? = Rip-off!!!

I paid $100 or so for the "free oil changes for life" card.

It's the only thing that they managed to sneak past me on the paperwork when I was dealing.

I have used it and have gotten my money back out of it, though. The only kicker is that it's good only at my dealer... and I'm about to move away.

It does sound like they goofed you on the pre-paid maintenance deal. What about air filters, cabin air filters and the like? Are they included?

Re: Pre-paid maintenance = Just oil changes? = Rip-off!!!

Chats - I think I would be calling Toyota and DEMANDING my money back!!! That is total BS!!

Mike - That does kinda suck but it is a dealer thing. If you won't be able to use it, maybe you could sell it (cheap) to someone here or just "pay it forward" as some have done here and just give it away to a "most deserving member" in that area....and NO, that would not be me as I live in N.O.

Re: Pre-paid maintenance = Just oil changes? = Rip-off!!!

I was told at Huntington Beach Toyota that it covers ALL SERVICING that's recommended in the service manual - everything, including trans, diff, spark plugs at 30K miles, etc. And they wanted to charge me the $800, but I talked 'em down to $400. Now I see why.....

I was told the exact same thing! But now when Im at 15k, it says differential service according to the service log book they gave me. They say , No only oil and tire rotation. The excuse next to it is says only if off-roading or towing. SO according to them its extra and not covered. They push the FJ on a selling point its for off-roading but not cover off-road in service? I will pursue this far!!! I can afford to pay for service out of pocket thats not the point. I feel deceived.
My ider is this I know dealers get compensated by Toyota , for the prepaid service. Thats why u must give the little coupons for every service you get. So even that Northridge and Hammer wont cover it, if I goto a bunch or dealers and say u will get all my future business, if you cover everything needed someone will bite.
I know this Northridge Toyota will NEVER get one cent of ANY future business parts ,service, or sales.

Re: Pre-paid maintenance = Just oil changes? = Rip-off!!!

30k service they do oil, air and spark plugs (in keeping with your smog equpt warrenty)

They wont do diffs, or trans (it is noted in "exteem cond maint) but is not considered part of 30k.

I just did "30k" service at 25k and instead of the package i repalced fluids (diffs, trans, and tranfer case) and "inspections which works out he same and next oil change i'll do spark plugs. All that for Under $150...

Sorry doesn't help youe sitch, but if you are looking for a cheaper way to keep in line with "mandatory service" for your warrenty...

Re: Pre-paid maintenance = Just oil changes? = Rip-off!!!

If they sold you Toyota Auto care and you aren't happy with the explanation of coverages I would get in touch with the dealership's Customer Relations Manager too and tell them what you were sold and what you got are two different things.

When I sold it there were different levels of coverage some included everything in the Passport to service and roadside assistance and some were more basic (oil changes and rotations and roadside assistance). They used to offer a choice of both 3000 and 5000 mile intervals for the services too.

It sounds like you want to cancel and get your pro-rated refund applied to the loan.

Toyota does reimburse the dealership for Autocare work, but at a reduced rate compared to warranty or customer pay work. It was sold to the dealership as a way to keep the customer coming into the store and possible buying another one.

That is what I remember them telling me too. Now when I look though the paper work I only have "Auto Care Classic", which only covers oil and tire rotation. Air filters, diff change, etc are all extra. I have 25,000+ miles and since I changed oil more regularity than schedule maint, I only have 2 oil changes left.

I am glad to have it go way. I already change the Diffs and the Manual transmission fluids to Sync Red Line. I changed out the air filters an K&N filter. I have been wanting to switch to a syn engine oil, but Toyota was going to charge me extra. I say good riddance to Toyota Auto Care plan.

Re: Pre-paid maintenance = Just oil changes? = Rip-off!!!

Well that is a rip-off. When we bough pumbaa we got a year free oil changes....but it was a hastle and it took forever so were finally done with the year free changes which didnt cover a full year.....we have to many miles!!

Were just going to everything ourselves....easier, and faster....plus were actually changing the sparkplugs ever 15,000 miles.
