I'm not gonna say much since I'm too upset...
Toyota Mall Of Georgia denied the repair on my busted diff under warranty for miss use of my vehicle, the main manager I tried to talk to was rude and was not interested in hearing anything I had to say. Great customer service! way to go TOYOTA!!
And Milkyxj(Gary), they also ask me to tell you to get your truck off the lot or they would start charging you storage...
This is how I feel right now... ...I'm the lower banana
My lawyer said as soon as you pay the bill...you have accepted fault....don't pay the bill !!!!!!!...or pay with a credit card and go straight to a non payment case with the credit card....then Toyota has to prove there case in court or eat the bill.....
I dont know where you are (EDIT GA)? I am in Illinois. We also ahve some resource in TN. I work with transmissions (110HP to 3000HP) I have access to gear techs, metallurgy labs and failure engineers. Maybe we can fit an analysis in for friends??
Can you get a GOOD picture of the remaining teeth?
A nice close up of the root and flanks would be great. Also as good as you can get,-a close up of the failure area, not the shiny parts the gray/grainy area where the teeth have broken off.
Are there any etched or stamped numbers/codes on the back? I can look into supplier codes and maybe we could find heat treat codes etc.
I can ship you mine if you can get some helpful data...
Something needs to be done to prove the defect if there's one....I can't find anything solid about defective ring gear!
I was told by the parts manager at Northridge Toyota that the 2 of the trail teams differentials blew up on the freeway, They were the ones that fixed it and switched to synthetic. I know another member here awhile back had his blow up freeway driving. Ill try to find the thread. But Im a bad searcher. This is making me want to trade the FJ.

Good advice!
But I don't like lawyers...
So instead of waisting my time with a lawyers and Toyota, I'm spending about $925 to fix it myself.
I will keep all my receipt and wait for some hard evidence to recoup.
Until then, I will write a letter to Toyota asking them why they are refusing to fix my truck????
Can someone find Toyota advertising an FJ Cruiser on pavement?
Wow! I was there when FJCRUSR broke his diff. Actually I was in an FJ in front of him. No abuse happening on that dirt road. And thats what it was, a dirt road! I was regretting selling my FJ last week, but this thread takes that pain away.
My mother works closely with dealers and they are ignorant to say the least. Few can even open the rear doors much less inform a potential buyer of the FJ's features.
Needless to say, I've put off buying a Camry hybrid until I can get it through the auction. Not a penny to the dealer. But I'm getting concerned about their ability and willingness to fix a vehicle that has rather new technology.
This site CLEARLY shows a stock truck in much harder terrain than what you were on when you broke.
Yea, this is the same clip they've been showing since the 07's came out. Notice there's no typical discaimers, i.e. "Professional driver on closed course. Actual vehicle not stock", etc...
LIES! TOYOTA IS LYING TO CUSTOMERS!
Here is a direct quote from Toyota:
"The 2008 FJ Cruiser is descended from a long line of legendary Toyota off-road vehicles, many of which are still going strong decades after they came out. The FJ is engineered to climb 20˚ grades, ford 3-foot deep rapids, and drive over boulders the size of refrigerators. And, better yet, to make it back."
FACT: Numerous cases prove that the FJ Cruiser can break on a dirt road, paved road, or on the highway.
Unfortunately, it seems that a lethal statistic is necessary to get a response from Toyota.
Oh, no. I'm still angry that Toyota is not standing behind their product. Just quietly gathering data and trying to figure out the best tactics to move forward.
I'm seriously considering parking my FJ and driving my piece-of-S@#T Ford.
I wonder how many diffs they busted while trying to take all these photos.
