Re: Busted diff

The latest news is that Toyota is trying to settle with me. They offered me the cost of my repairs and a rental while my car was down but they only covered half of my legal fees. I'm not supposed to talk about it anymore, PM me if you have any questions.

Good news! Keep after them Gary! Well done!

Re: Busted diff

Here is my $0.02, take it for what it's worth.

Clearly Toyota is advocating and promoting off-roading in a responsible manner by having the Trail Teams. They have advertisements in every off-road oriented magazine out there, including 4WD Toyota Owner, and the TLCA publication "Toyota Trails".

Perhaps a letter to the editor focusing on and citing Toyota's customer service and comments made in correspondence to individuals. Not bashing the product, but how they are treating the customers.

I do not own an FJC, but I have several close friends that do, and they are used much like the Trail Teams do. I have seen a bent lower control arms, snapped front 1/2 shafts, and recently an obliterated ring and pinion. The owners get nothing but grief from the dealerships, and corporate appears to have nothing on record for complains, or even there being a problem/trend to begin with. Bad record keeping or blatant lying? It is very sad that Toyota USA has dropped to this level of satisfaction, with what got them started in U.S. sales to begin with the 4X4 vehicle.

Sure someone may write a very elloquite(sp) letter. Trouble is that the mags might not print it because of how they make their money. But it may just be worth a shot.

Re: Busted diff

Toyota has to realize that they will never get anywhere in the full size truck market if they treat those customers as they treated me. Can you imagine the fleet foreman of a large construction company being told the warranty is void on his Tundra because there were scratches on the rims and skidplates along with mud stains in the engine compartment?

It happened to me when I took my FJ in for its ONLY warranty work in eighteen months. Made me feel guilty for driving it offroad. I ended up getting it covered but I had to raise hell.

Toyota needs to regroup the service managers and restate policy on off-road/heavy duty use. Publish the guidelines and live by it if they want to compete with other off road manufactures.

Re: Busted diff

Is there any revisons to the 2008's about the diff's? Or was this only a early 07' model problem ?

Re: Busted diff

Inner tie rod was too loose to do an alignment after I put in the OME lift.

What theyr'e trying to tell you is that you shouldn't have sued them. I would not settle for anything out of your pocket. Its a winner take all situation.

Amen to that. I would also start with letting the dealers have their salespeople trained to drive a stickshift as a start, leave alone know what the little lever is for.
