So has anyone determined what build date of the bad diffs are? Mine is 06 06 28. I see alot of the vehicles build dates have earlier diff dates in them. Mine is 06/06 vehicle and 06 06 28 diff so.
Production date...04/06
auto trans/ 18,000K /no problems/ just changed fluid for the first time using Royal Purple/ oil came out black with some debris on magnet.
OK toyota has ordered a new rear end and will be replacing it hopefully this week, if not by Monday. Don't know if they are going to replace the front, the service manager is trying to get a hold of someone with Toyota but they are on a skeleton crew. Looks like great service from Toyota, as usual. No mention of a lift or bigger tires or off road abuse, just a call to let me know that the parts are on order.
I was going up a hill that I had been over several times before and after 4 other FJCs went up and over without a problem. I started up and half way up, BANG!
I was not hammering it or hitting it hard at all. I was surprised that it broke there.
I limped out and trailered it to Wesley Chapel Toyota. And there it sits! arrrggg
Build date 06/06
Auto
Sorry did not see the date on the diff

Are the rear diffs breaking due to the fact that the E-Locker is on? Are you in hi or low when it went? Just currious. I'm only 2wd with E Locker, but since I have an early build date (5/16/06) I guess I too may fall victim. I just put in royal purple in the rear end and hope that this will be the trick. Any answers would be helpful. Thanks.

mine is 06/06 also, very curious how many miles seems to be the average when this happens? and when this happens was it before or after the rear diff fluid was changed?
