Mines a 03/06 build date 32k miles and no problem. Is the rear diff covered in the 5yr/50,000 or 60k mile powertrain warranty? Should I ask about replacement next time I take it in to the dealer? Actually I'm supposed to take it in this Friday for FJammer problem and to check engine pulleys and to check for bulges and rips. I'll see if they can check the diff.

Larry, it won't hurt to ask but I have a feeling they will blow smoke up your arse.
Rear diff blew out 8-23-07 with 10,600 miles. I was climbing a hill at the time. Toyota replaced it under warranty. Manufacture date is 06/06. Here is a picture of the hill.
And the list is growing. I'm not on other forums like Mud etc. Please, if you are on other forums can you post this thread link for other people with broken rear diffs in their FJs. We need more data!
08/06 broke around 10k last winter while wheeling to ski area in snow. Stock tires. whining/grinding noise before hand up the hill. broke as soon as 4WD engaged.
