Thumbs up Re: Broken Rear Diff / Build Date Please

Keeping this thread alive. Please if you are on other forums with fellow FJ members, won't you point them to this thread if they've blown up their rears.

Re: Broken Rear Diff / Build Date Please

Not sure if you guys can use this or not..

A similiar list from 05+ tacos with failed rears.

Failed rear end list in the 05/06 Tacoma - TTORA Forum

Im pretty sure the rear is the same between FJs/05+ tacos.. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Re: Broken Rear Diff / Build Date Please

Broken teeth on the ring gear

Build date 3/06

15K miles +/-

Off road at the time but did not notice until the drive home. I'd say the trail(s) were a 3+ rating and nothing that I feel should have resulted in the outcome.

My local dealer made the repairs under warranty without any issue. However as a side note, a week and a half later I was on my way to Moab from Seattle, about 4 hours from Seattle I stopped for gas and heard a BAD noise which I thought was the rear end coming apart. Turns out that both rear brake caliper bolts where GONE! A Toyota dealer 3 miles away (lucky I know) took the two bolts from an FJ on their lot and got me back on the road.

Build date 05/06, 13000 miles. broken ring gear in Moab on an easy obstacle. Dealer replaced 3rd member.....no questions asked. Toyota even reimbursed me for the Uhaul trailer rental to get it home.
