*Body Rip issue: Let's gather some real data*

Edit I need the data listed below from the following members everyone else is still welcome to post!:

stagecoacho
goose175
toddunderscore
Savvyav
J762
Tony5150RN
qua77ro
FJ Quebec

I'm asking because you posted in the photo thread..Thanks for your help!

----------------------------------------------------------
Ok everyone let's keep this thread clean. No discussions/theories or arguments please.

I'd like to gather some real data about this rip issue. Once I get the following items I can compile them into excel and see if we have any commonalities. (I'm not promising anything here.. but let's just see what happens.) I will not be posting an open poll as I don't think those are very reliable.. I will however, be posting up whatever I find from excel. I'm sure someone who is well-versed in statistics is going to have some objections (sample size, accuracy etc.) but this is the best we can do

*Those of us that are effected please post the following.*

1. Pictures of your damage.. ie rips/bulges. Also please give us a rating on the severity of your damage on a scale of 1-10. 10 being worst.. if you're not comfortable with that, just post up pics.

2.Build Date

3. Vehicle Mileage

4.% of offroad vs. hwy/on road use (be honest here, I'm just as guilty of the mall crawler syndrome as anyone )

5. Aftermarket front bumper: yes/no

6. Lift kit: yes/no. Also specify 3"/6" etc.

7. Tire size

8. Transmission Type: AT/MT

I realize a few of these items are pretty arbitrary but I want to keep it simple. This will give us a good initial run to see if there are any commonalities.

Also, those of you who posted in the original picture thread I'll be pulling your data in from that thread.. if you have a problem with this, let me know. If you are missing some of the data fromt he list above, please post it up in here.

If we want to collect meaningful data we should also be collecting data from people who do not (yet?) have the symptoms. Just a suggestion.

Lets post up a poll to see who would be willing to participate in yet another thread / poll so we know what the drop off factor is.

I gave up after the first few threads.

Precisely. An accurate collection of statistics would have to include both the affected and non-affected groups. And, it's unlikely that anyone without this problem would be willing to participate in such a statistical survey.

DEEZUS, while I admire your tenacity in attempting to sort out things in a logical manner, there are at least 18 different threads (that I'm aware of) on the Forum right now that are dealing specifically with the inner fender bulging/cracking phenomena. I'm not sure that starting yet another would actually lessen the already existing confusion.

I hear ya Steve.. I had a feeling someone would bring that up. Not to mention the sample size may not be sufficient.

Anyhow.. if we've got 18.. 19 can't hurt right.

What I'm going to attempt to do is draw direct comparisons initally. ie mileage vs. issue.. etc. Also I believe I know of a way to sort out all of this data to indicate which item is most likely the culprit.

Believe me I'm not banking on a definitive answer here.. If anything this thread will also give us a more accurate count of effected vehicles.. We could compare that against a sample size of the members on the board. Although that would be assuming that each and every member is aware of this problem.. Which may not be likely.

Re: *Body Rip issue: Let's gather some real data*

I still think we should put 2 of the same species togehter side by side, one w/ and the other w/o the rips, bulges, etc. And then compare/semi-strip them, for just not only theories.
But here it goes:
1. NO Rips, bulges, etc.

2.12/2006 Automatic

3. 12,250 miles

4. 4% offroad, 96% road

5. Aftermarket front bumper: No.

6. Lift kit: Only front leveled (883s) after 5250 miles.
Anything else, look below.

7. Tire size 'Stock' TRD 16" BFG A/T
