I got home and noticed my fj was having "steam/smoke" coming from the front bumper and the radiator. I have an aftermarket bumper. It looks like the metal hose melted on the hose in between the grill and radiator.. any body have tips? ideas?

The All-Pro will do the same thing if not re-bent properly. (Which bumper do you have, Eeddy??)

If that's the case, you've probably punctured your A/C condensation line and that's the steam pouring out of your grill area.

It shouldn't have any adverse affect on the rest of the FJ, but consider your A/C out of commision until you get it repaired/replaced and your A/C system recharged. In the mean time, I'd turn off the A/C button on the dash so the compressor won't be trying to suck dry air through the system.

Hey, I have an aftermarket bumper made by Kennesaw mountain acc.
www.kenmntac.com and i just went to the toyota dealership and they said exactly what you said. They told me that it would cost $400! just in labor because they have to remove parts.. im just going to install it my self and then take it in and get it rebooted and what not.. yah? let me know your thoughts.. $400.. thats stupid considering the part is probably $50.

Considering that dealerships have a tendency to charge quite a bit for non-warranty repairs like this, I would take it to an automotive A/C or radiator shop. More likely to escape for about $50-$60, including the system purging and recharge.

BTW, I don't know why all of the FJ aftermarket bumper manufacturers don't do what Warn did on their FJ winch bumper. Warn notched a big rounded cut-out exactly where the A/C travels up the front to prevent this very problem.

Re: Please HELP HELP

I just went through the same thing with my Demello bumper. I bent the AC line when I installed it but it must have relaxed back. The new line from Toyota is $168.00. I took my to a friend who is a GOOD aluminum welder and he patched it. Couldn't even tell it happened. I then took it to an AC shop to have it evacuated and recharged. Cost $75.00. You will want to be sure and have the AC system evacuated since it was open to the air. When I reinstalled the tube, I bent it more and reversed the white plastic clip on the bracket in fron of the radiator. It is now on the insdie of the bracket instead of the outside. No problems since.

Here is pic of the bracket. The white clip is on the outside from the factory. Just reverse it and it will help. This is a Demello bumper by the way.
