Oil Pressure

Last when I was starting the car it hesitated momentarily and the oil light came on intermittently. It started, and then I turned the engine off and tried it again - no problem starting this time. No problems since. The oil was changed at the dealer about 1000 miles ago. Should I just forget it?

There seems to be a ticking sound too, but I think thats related to some emissions system. Does not sound like valves ticking.

Re: Oil Pressure

The gerotor oil pump that all modern Toyotas use is bulletproof and lasts nearly forever; I've never seen one that needed rebuilding even after hundreds of thousands of miles. So I seriously doubt it is an oil pressure problem; rather the flickering idiot light is a symptom of the "hesitation" of the engine I bet. If it didn't throw a check engine light and it doesn't do it again, I wouldn't worry about it. If it did or does again, hook up an OBD-II scanner and read the code or take it somewhere where they can. Nothing to worry about in the oil pressure department though.

Re: Oil Pressure

The ticking is emissions. If you must know drivers side, just under the plastic engine cover. Don't worry about the oil light unless it stays on more than a few seconds wile the engine is running.

Re: Oil Pressure

Just in case, check your oil, I have had Dealer Service Personnel put between 1 to 2.5 Quarts "Extra" Oil in my truck. God knows why. I have taken it out and measured it for those of you who ask how I know how much. One time we traced it down to a improperly calibrated oil filler they use. The rest of the time they are not just paying attention. I usually get a Quart Extra. You know, my Grandfather always taught me to use the Dipstick after an Oil Change....
