Hey got a weird problem, the oil light is on when the car is in accessory mode, but is off when the car is on. It's dim when it's in accessory, and then bright when the ignition is on, then off when the car is running. Oil level looks good, and just changed it yesterday, along with a new filter.
Do you have any electrical "accessories" of any kind tied into your FJ's electrical system? If so, where do you have them picking up their battery power?
Looking at the schematic for the '07, the only way that the low oil pressure indicator (actually a LED, and not an incandescent lamp) is getting dimly illuminated is because you have some leakage current that's getting into the power circuit that feeds the "combination meter" (instrument cluster).
Normally, there is no power applied to the part of the circuit that feeds the oil pressure indicator when the ignition key is in the "OFF" or "ACCESSORY" positions. Full battery voltage is only applied when the key is in the "RUN" position.
The fact that the indicator is "dim" when the key is in the "ACCESSORY" position means that it is receiving less than full battery voltage. This can be leakage current flowing from pin-to-pin on a wet or corroded connector somewhere, or from an incorrectly-wired accessory that is somehow tied into the part of the electrical system that supplies battery voltage to the instrument cluster.
Has your FJ gotten very wet recently? Washed out the engine bay? Added some new electrical widget anywhere that ties into the FJ's electrical system?
Hmm I do have a few gadgets wired in through add a fuses, I may redo those tomorrow and see if that changes anything, I haven't added anything other than a sPod recently.
Hey guys, I noticed that you are saying that there is no Oil Pressure Sensor on the FJ's..On my 2007 down and to the left of the oil filter is a sensor that is leaking oil. When I type in my year and make and search for oil pressure sensor location it comes up as the sensor in the location I mention above. I just looked on Rockauto for a new one and they are advertising many as a Pressure sensor that helps monitor if oil pressure is low and some even say they monitor the quality/age of the oil. Is this not true? Is this just a switch like you mention above or is it a Pressure Sensor?
I'm assuming that by switch you mean it just senses when you first start up if there is enough pressure and turns the light off on the dash. I think down the road I'm going to upgrade the CD player to one of those units that ties into the ECU and monitors many different components. I like being able to see what's going on with everything. I guess I've become spoiled at work with driving Peterbilts that have gauges that monitor oil temp, water temp, air pressure, Volts, tanny temp..
Yeah J they may call it a sensor although it's incorrect. The switch is just that it switch if it sees/doesn't see oil pressure at a set psi. People in general don't pay attention to the gauges on the dash hence the need for "idiot" lights.
