Re: Leaky Roof? Post your leaky roof problems here!

i get wet drivers side rear near hook. only when i go thru a high power car wash. going to check washers/perhaps replace with rubber.

ok during regular condtions. need to try to get the pink stain out of headliner from the soap in the car wash... oh well. otherwise very happy camper...hopefully a washer on rack is just a bit torn...

nope. picked mine up on 1-16-2007, drove a few miles and a small leak down inside of windshield on drivers side. thought maybe they had just cleaned inside of window, was it windex?
ran it through a high-pressure wash today, same small leak, same spot (obviously, dealer high-pressure washed before i picked it up). i will check roof-rack bolts first, then back to dealer.
(i still love my FJ)

Take pic with a digital camera...the dealership appreciated that so they could isolate the problem. If it's running down the windshield it sounds just like the problem I had...look forward to getting a new windshield!

Re: Leaky Roof? Post your leaky roof problems here!

this thread is somewhat dead, but i wanted to post this in case anyone searches this problem in the future:

my leak turned out to be a pinhole in the caulking of the windshield. the diagnostic process went as follows:

1. TMS replaced all the seals on the roof rack, re-torqued, and ran it through their pressure washer. it leaked.

2. checked windshield. found small hole in caulking. resealed that area, still leaked.

3. dropped the headliner, checked with water and compressed air, found another pinhole in the caulking of the driver's side top corner of windshield. resealed, problem fixed.

some of the production engineers came to check it out, and they plan to follow-up at the factory in Japan to see if there is a flaw in the production line.

AND, i am sure that after all of this, i am going to get a rock to the windshield any moment now!!

I'm just a stones throw east of Eastern Wa (Idaho Panhandle). We had that same rain come thru here - the only thing I can compare it to were the typhoons I experienced while living in Asia. My FJ sits outside and didn't leak - yet.
Prior to Denver I was living in Sandpoint, you anywhere near there? Boy I REALLY loved it up there...

Re: Leaky Roof? Post your leaky roof problems here!

I'm planning on dropping an oversized sunroof into my FJ TRD. The dealer will install it so it's covered by warranty, but do you think this will result in a huge leakage problem?

Same here. No roof rack, no wet headliner, but I do get the wet seatbelt. Taking it to the dealer on Wednesday

Re: Leaky Roof? Post your leaky roof problems here!

I haven't read all the reply's but has anyone made any comments about the four rubber plugs on the top of the roof rack tubes at the front of the FJ? While detailing my FJ when I got it home, no dealer has ever detailed a vehicle the way I like it, and while drying the roof rack tubes, I unknowingly removed the rubber plugs from the roof rack tubes at the front of the FJ.

There are only four of these, two on each side. Today I looked at about ten different FJ's at two dealers with roof racks and noticed some had soft rubber plugs for these holes and others had hard plastic plugs.

Could water be leaking into the FJ from these holes with and without plugs?

I hope I am not being redundent if this has already been discussed but I could see the soft rubber plugs coming off very easily when running your FJ through a car wash. They also come off very easily when drying your roof rack tubes with a towel. The hard rubber plugs appear to be much harder to remove by accident.

Well installed my lift yesterday in the rain. Came out today and found a wet seat belt for the first time. 12k miles and this is the first time. Will update when I know more.
