Re: Leaky Roof? Post your leaky roof problems here!

My fj was out in a hard rain last night and I found a water inside around the window. I'm going to the dealer this week to get a few other things fixed like the squeaky seat that is driving me up the wall and the fj cruiser emblem the is flaking. I still love my fj

Re: Leaky Roof? Post your leaky roof problems here!

had wet headliner above rear windows again after it sat in a airport parking lot while in the keys...took to dealer today, they are calling me back to schedule a drop off. planning on replacing headliner, new washers for rack and "sealing" of the rack. should all be under warranty, i'll report here later.

i was getting wet spots above rear windows. rack has been on for months, no other issues. pretty sure the paper washers/gaskets are ripped or something

going in this week. new headliner, new roof rack washers, sealing roof rack. no cost to me. dealer said something like $2500. oh well.

the headliner was "shrunk" on passenger side a bit.

Re: Leaky Roof? Post your leaky roof problems here!

dealer fixed leaky roof rack and replaced headliner. in the process they broke the coat hook and door seal. no biggie. they called and i brought it back for the minor fixes. they fixed the door but not the coat hook. also, they said they didn't, but they also broke the rear seat belt (it wont retract). so now i have to go back again for the seat belt and for the coat hook.

pretty minor stuff, but come one. did i mention it is 2 hours round trip to my dealer.

Re: Leaky Roof? Post your leaky roof problems here!

I'm sorry to say I think I have this same problem. The last five digits of my VIN are in the 71k range.

Couple of weeks ago the vehicle sat out in a driving rain for an hour or two while I was in a meeting. After I returned to it I noticed water had dripped down the inside of the windshield on the driver's side. I wiped it away and it didn't recur that day, and I convinced myself I had somehow flung it up there from my wet head on entering.

Today it sat out in the rain for three hours during another meeting, and afterward I had two drips, one right after the other, right in the same spot as the first. The edge of the headliner also felt damp to the touch right above the drips.

They just had the damn headliner out to fix a persistent buzz over the driver's left ear. Looks like I'll have to take it back tomorrow. We're headed up to Canada this Saturday, and the truck will be outside in the weather for a week.

Re: Leaky Roof? Post your leaky roof problems here!

I had the same problem. After a heavy (South Texas) rain, I would get water stain on the headliner right above the driver side A-pillar. I thought it was the coming from where 4WheelParts ran the wires into the exterior of the A-Pillar for my rack lights. They looked and couldn't find anything. So they unscrewed the rack (a Gobi Stealth) and sure enough the bolt there was a bit rusted and was letting water in. They replaced he bolt and sealed everything with some silicone. Hopefully that'll fix it.

Re: Leaky Roof? Post your leaky roof problems here!

If that headliner gets any wetter they are going to replace the whole thing. I didn't buy a brand new truck to be driving around with a headliner that has been water soaked. Really dumb. The first report on this was way back in '06, and since my truck was a late production model I was sure they would have fixed this.

Unhappy Re: Leaky Roof? Post your leaky roof problems here!

Sadly they did not fix it. In fact, my headliner is now very wet in the rear above the suicide doors on both sides. I'm not sure who to bring it to--4WheelPart (who installed the rack) or Toyota. Any thoughts?

Re: Leaky Roof? Post your leaky roof problems here!

It sure sounds like you have a rack mount leak, and not a windshield problem. So I would start with the rack installer.
