Re: Leaky Roof? Post your leaky roof problems here!

Hi guys I just had the same problem this weekend. I took off my roof rack and
put in replacemant bolts when I bought it last November . We went camping last weekend and I had a big puddle in the cargo area. It was coming from the roof above the corner right window , the headliner was wet. Once I got home I took off the clip and found that the seals from the roof rack holes were not sealing well on the front bolt. So I went out and put a rubber washer under the clip and another one under the bolt. Then I added some silicone for good measure. Lets hope that works. I just hope none of the other holes decide to leak those covers are very hard to remove once they're on .

Sorry dude, just couldn't pass up that quote.

Re: Leaky Roof? Post your leaky roof problems here!

Found a wet spot above the pass. rear door and the FJ is on it's way to the dealer. I had problems with the roof rack when the dealer put it on, it took two trips and now this will make three. Are the other leaking roof racks put on by dealerships?

Interesting that you'd have this problem...

I got lazy one day and didn't replace the white caps, washers, or anything on my rack-less roof... been through the AZ monsoon season and a few pressure washes - no leaks!

Re: Leaky Roof? Post your leaky roof problems here!

Just got the FJ back. Four holes in the roof around one of the roof rack bases. I referenced this site with previous posts, the tech gave me a funny look and listened to everything I said. He was able to find the problem right away and seal not only the holes that leaked but around the other bolts to prevent anything in the future. THIS WEBSITE IS THE SH*T!

Re: Leaky Roof? Post your leaky roof problems here!

I have major puddles (talking about 1/2 inch deep) in the rear compartment, and post-drip stains on my steering wheel, doors, seatbelts and passenger side airbag.

I had the port-installed rack, but had the dealer take it off. Leaks like a siv (sp) now.

Argh.

To the dealership it goes.
