Check Engine Light P0420

I just checked it and the code P0420 came up.

The PCM has determined that the catalyst system efficiency for bank 1 is below threshold for the current engine operating conditions.

So I looked around in Google and other Toyota forums and I got it narrowed down to MAF sensor, O2 sensor, cat or a combination. Now my question is.. is this included in the 80k emissions warranty or not?

What are the consequences of not fixing this? besides failing emissions test

Is there a way to disable the check engine light for short periods of time?

Anything that effects emissions should be covered. The consequences of not fixing it is that it's all down hill from here. I'd take it back if it was mine.

I would agree with that assessment. I know how difficult our local dealer is with some issues but I would still take it in and have them validate your troubleshooting...

Take it to the dealer you have 8 years 80K miles on CC.

Chances are its either O2 or the Cat or a reflash on the ECM, probably O2 (bank 1 sensor 2) . You can throw MAF out the window it would set a different code. But dont even bother troubleshooting unless you have more than 80k miles. Let the dealer replace what they need to.

About the only thing that it would affect is gas mileage but not very much, if you live where they check emmisions it will probably fail so be ready for that.

Yeah our dealer around this area is such a pain in the ass to deal with... It's seriously a freakin' trial every time I go there between me and the service manager. But either way we know the P0420 curse also applies to the FJs. I'll let you all know what happens in this probably longer than it should ever be journey to get my junk fixed at the dealer.
