Question Do you work for Toyota?

I need someone from Toyota to answer this question.

Is there a list from Toyota Motor Corp, of “approved” tires for the FJ?
Is there a list from Toyota Motor Corp, of “unapproved” tiers for the FJ?

My dealer is giving me a hard time about putting any tire other than the stock tire on my Rig.

This is a quote from the dealer.
“I am not sure of the all of the details of the tires you want to install. However, my understanding, is that the tires you want to install are not recommended by Toyota for your vehicle. Because of this, we are reluctant to do the installation.”

The tires I want are 285/70R17 Does this sound right to you? I am planning a 3” lift.

Did anyone else run into this?

Re: Do you work for Toyota?

I don't work for Toyota, but -

that is ridiculous; they are just trying to sell you whatever tires they have in stock so they can mark them way up. A huge number of people on this forum (including me) are running that exact size of tire. Buy your tires somewhere else, they'll be cheaper anyway.

Re: Do you work for Toyota?

I am part of there customer loyalty program. For doing my service with the dealer I’m supposed to get free tires, I relies the larger size cost more and I didn’t have a problem with paying the difference in price. But now I’m aggravated with them. Very aggravated.

Just so all 4 tires are the same hight, that is all you need to care about.

Re: Do you work for Toyota?

I used to work for toyota....

As long as the tire size is the same as the placard in the door jam they can put it on, doesnt matter about brand.

When the dealer starts putting on different sizes then they run into liability issues, especially if they sell you the tire.
