I have an 2007 FJ cruiser with 1200 miles on the clock and ever since driving it home from the dealer there is a really annoying rattle from under the passenger side dash. I've been under there with a flashlight and nothing looked out of place or loose. Has anyone here had the same thing? On a side note it also seems to take a long time to start, it cranks for maybe 2-3 seconds before it turns over. I have even tried turning the ignition on and waiting for a few seconds for the fuel pump amd computer to fire up but it still does the same thing. I have not owned a toyota for a long time but my wife had a sienna minivan about 2 years ago and it fired right up every time. Thoughts?
Pull the glove box out and look inside, make sure the cabin air filter cover is on good and tight. It explains how in your manual. As far as the engine cranking goes. It is normal for this vehicle to crank for 2-3 seconds before it fires up.

do you by chance have an alarm installed? there is a computer connector up behind the glovebox area with lots of cables running out of it. Normally, they are zip tied and wrapped with a soft foam, but sometimes the alarm installers don't snug everything back up.
Mine takes about 2 seconds to start on a cold day, but haven't had any problems with it.

I've heard this. I could've sworn it was coming from the glove box or the speaker. After more investigation, it was coming from the black plastic piece on the door sill. Try removing it and snapping it back in. I'm not saying you have the same problem I have, but it's very likely.

It sounds like a plastic rattle. It only happens when the engine is under load. I have taken the glove box out and checked the filter cover it seems fine. I'm about ready to tear the whole dash out. I'm going to try the plastic door sill cover tonight and I let you guys know if it works..
It's been since 7:30 am this morning and still no more rattle. I removed and reinstalled the passenger side door sill, then I wedged a piece of foam between the heater and wire harness that leads through the fire wall under the glove box. I'm not sure which one fixed it but it seems gone. I just want to give a big THANKS to everyone one who helped. I love the internet!
