Steering/Pulling problems!

Ok I'm hoping the kind folks here can help us solve this mystery. For a few weeks now we have felt this strange pulling from the FJ whenever we either let off the gas or accelerate, and it is generally only felt when on the highway. One of the bolts to our passenger LCA randomly fell off a few weeks ago so we replaced it, put loc-tite on them and have checked and re-checked so we are pretty confident thats not the issue. Here is what happens:

You are driving on the freeway when things start to slow down...as soon as you let off the gas (no brake!) the truck pulls slightly to the left and you can feel the wheel turn slightly to the right. What I mean by slightly is that its enough for you to see/feel the truck pull left but not take you out of the lane, and enough to see/feel the wheel go right. Now when you step back on to speed up the opposite happens....the truck pulls slightly to the right and you can feel the wheel go left!

We just had a new lift/suspension system put on this week and were hoping that and a new alignment would fix the problem...no go. Two alignments this week and it still happens. We checked all the tire pressures and they are the same, tires were rotated and all look warn equally. I'm just not sure what to think at this point.

Has anyone else experienced this? Does anyone have any ideas of what it could be or where it could be coming from? I'm here at home so if there are any suggestions out there I can sure run out and crawl under the truck to take a look!

Thanks

Re: Steering/Pulling problems!

There is twist or flex in the suspension from the torque....Did you replace any of the rear trailing arms? I found that when I did, the nuts on the lower trailing arms fell off and the bolt worked its way out causing exactly what you are experiencing. I added locktite and torqued to 96 ft lbs and that solve my issue.

Re: Steering/Pulling problems!

Well we replaced the LCA's with the All-Pro and thats the nut that fell off a few weeks ago and fixed. We have noticed that the mounts on the new LCA's seem to have expanded a bit, which we also inquired about but we were told that was normal.

Re: Steering/Pulling problems!

You may get a little expansion but I would go back and check that they are torqued to 96 ft lbs....If they are loose they will twist side to side. It may appear tight but make sure to put a wrench on one side to keep the bolt from spinning. I actually checked the torque on the bolt and nut side for extra piece of mind. I have the solid LCA's not the adjustable BTW.

Re: Steering/Pulling problems!

Ours are not adjustable. They are on there pretty tight but I will make sure they are to 96 ft lbs and see what happens.
