Exclamation Noisy Brakes on a new FJ!!

I’ve been doing some searches on this forum and none of the topics really cover what my concern is about, so here we are:

I’ve had my FJ for only a few months and I’ve noticed that the brakes on this car are very noisy! (Including the parking brake.)

When I park I always use the parking brake, especially if I’m going to stop on an incline. I put the car in neutral, pull up the e-brake, and make sure that the weight of the car is held by the e-brake before I put it into park. I don't like for the weight of the car to be sitting on the gear box transmission thingy (I know my terminology is horrible!)

Well whenever I release the e-brake, it makes a very unnecessary clunk sound. Very annoying!! (Never drove with the parking brake up)

Furthermore, the brakes on the car in general are very noisy. They make a grungy grinding, sound when I’m at a stop and gently release the brakes. (Especially if going down hill)

Or for example If I am parked and I shift into Drive. Obviously this makes the car want to move forward and if it does move ever-so-slightly that annoying sound is heard. This is especially noticeable during the mornings when I start my car and its cold out. (I guess because when it’s cold the Rpm’s are a little higher than when its warm; hence causing more movement.)

Anyone else having these issues or is it just me? Is it worth a trip to the dealer, because I hate that place!!

Thanks in advance

Most people's bakes in here are noisey in the morning, there have been a number of threads about it. Mine deose it and it is quite aggrevating. Your parking brake clunk is normal its just the shoes releasing. You might get the dealer to do something about the squeel, but I doubt it let us know if you do.

Re: Noisy Brakes on a new FJ!!

A grungy grinding noise when coming to a stop doesn't sound good to me. The FJ's usually have noise brakes first thing in the morning. But it does not persist. I hate the dealership too. Brakes making that noise sound like a warranty issue (unless you have a ton of miles and it is time to replace the pads)

Not me.. This thing has the best brakes of anything I've ever owned (driving legally for 38 years)! I've had to adjust to not actually pressing on the pedal, just acting like I'm going to... Well not really, but close.. Something doesn't sound right with yours.. Ron

Re: Noisy Brakes on a new FJ!!

I agree, I would go to the dealer. My parking brake doesn't make any noise, ever and it holds great. My service brakes, squeal in the morning on the very first backup only. No grungy sounds ever. Like others have said, the FJ has some pretty darn good brakes (comparatively speaking). If I were you I would go to the dealer and don't let them tell you it's normal, because it's not.

Re: Noisy Brakes on a new FJ!!

Greg2308, did you ever find out what was wrong with your brakes? I have Brick 08 FJ and it is making the same grungy grinding noise when coming to a stop.

The sounds actually went away over time
