Heres a pict sorry I think I need a new camera.
Where you see the white line is, the paint is starting to crack I work construction so I open and close the door at least 2 times a day minimum if not more to get tools.
It looks like the lip on the door isnt strong enough and bends after a while.
Thats what I think any input is welcomed
Call me dense - I still can't figure out where you are talking about on the rear door and this picture doesn't help. There's a large lip around the rear door.

Ahh! Much better! Thanks! You may be right about your theory, but two other possible explanations that I could think of is someone prying the lip to break in (but you would then think that the outer edge of the lip would be damaged) or that the outer edge of the door could have been tapped against a flat wall when opened - wouldn't dent the edge, but might have been enough to pop the paint.

Good theory but I live in the boonies and when I work the construction site are all in mud and not to many people around. Never had the door hit something while I was opening it. Might be the recoil of when you close it, this door must be pretty heavy. You can see the bend on the lip doesnt go far inside. Its not much I can live with it.
For info the fj is in the first 11000 built with about 37000miles on it.

Re: Rear Door Hatch Bulge/Crack

The fellows rig who I am referring to had his not on the door but the inner latch on the body... not the door. Around the little C shaped piece where the latch holds on to.

Re: Rear Door Hatch Bulge/Crack

After reading this thread, I checked mj FJ. Didn't find one at the time but low and behold one has recently appeared. I'm heading in to the dealer tomorrow. Any hints on how I should approach the service manager to get it fixed ? I have a Blackcherry Pearl like fjTeddy, has anyone with a different color experienced this problem ?

Re: Rear Door Hatch Bulge/Crack

I believe you guys talking about where the outer skin rear quarter meets the inner panel where there are spot welds. May be too much flexing cause the paint to crack since it is near the two connecting panel. Please keep us posted as to what the outcome is.Thanks.

Re: Rear Door Hatch Bulge/Crack

Hey ,guys took my FJ to the dealer, showed the service manager the crack and explained that I had heard of this problem occurring on other FJs. He took pics of the door and said " What will probably happen is that they will fix it and paint the whole door". I'll give them a week to get back to me and then I'll see what happens. I also ordered a touch up pen as I too have found the Black cherry pearl paint seems to chip in odd places.
