That is the most F'ed up thing I have ever heard about a car. I have heard many dumb things from many dumb people before. I wonder if my full car paint job is not under warranty anymore due to all the small pits from rocks and other stuff hitting it and since I did not take ownership pride to ride on the hood to deflect these small "not able to see only hear after it hit the paint" rocks.

Clearly he's an idiot anyway...
Thats what I would say followed by a swift kick to the balls. F*$k that guy. Im sure half this forum would make the trip to take turns kicking this guy in the nuts....

I have a couple of buddies who worked as service advisors. The thing they told me is that warranty work is really a dealers call. They say this because they want to be able to not pick up work that they feel will get in the way of bigger money service orders. The thing I have always kept in mind is that they told me (one worked for GM the other for Dodge) that warranty work only pays half the labor rate and has almost no profit in parts. So diffrent dealers will treat you diffrent, those with better customer service will treat you great and take care of your warranty work others who are all about money will pass you up to take the profit filled 30K, and 60K service orders.
I was in the area of a local Toyota dealer while running some errands and thought I would stop by to have them check out my vibrating driver's side mirror that's been going on for about a month now. After almost an hour waiting, a tech comes up to me while I was waiting in the FJ, pushes on the mirror and says the motor has play in it and he'll order another one. Over 30 minutes later someone comes up to me and hands me my keys saying that since the mirrors were painted black and therefore not OEM equipment anymore, there was nothing they could do about it. They claimed they even called the Toyota hotline...blah blah. I said, so since it's painted, that means it's not a Toyota part anymore? HE SAID YES! I seriously thought about going and pulling the Toyota emblem off the friggin thing and asking him if it was no longer a Toyota. I said are you aware of the Magnuson-Moss Warranty act that states in a nutshell that you have to prove that me adding black paint to my mirror causes it to malfunction and vibrate, rendering it useless? He just started to say that they couldn't cover it again, and I said I've already heard your premeditated response, took my keys and left. Any of you with painted mirrors had problems and had to get them warrantied?
The problem is not the paint on your mirrors - it's the paint that service writer was sniffing when he gave you that idiotic response. Call toyota corporate offices and lodge a complaint, and talk to another, more rational dealer...

I agree with all of you...one guy looked the entire thing over and didn't say a word about the loud exhaust, lift, tires, stereo, bumpers, fender flares, nothing. He loved it. It was the service manager who was a dee dee dee. When I was in their little bay where you drive up, waiting to follow the guy who was about to move my FJ, he ESCORTED ME to the customer lounge...which I walked right past and went and sat in my parked FJ waiting for someone to come take a look at it. No way I trust anyone to be around it. This is also the dealer who also told me there were only 2500 TRDs made and that it was totally possible to order one just like the TRD a month ago. The weird thing is, I only saw older, used cars being worked on. I guess long-time customers who pay cash out of pocket are the only ones who have their work done there.

Thats because they know the time/cost book is BS. Most techs can complete work in half the published time which creates more profit for the dealer. Call Toyota direct about this and I bet the guy on the other end spits his coffee when he hears this line of BS. Good Luck with what should be an easy fix.
